THE PROPHETIC FEASTS OF THE LORD - Series 1 - THE SPRING FEASTS

Part 4 of 7
THE PATTERN OF THINGS PAST
“The Lord said to Moses, “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: These are my appointed feasts, the appointed feasts of the Lord, which you are to proclaim as sacred assemblies.” (Leviticus 23:1-2)

INTRODUCTION

As we come to complete out study on the Feast of Passover, I pray that you will contemplate and absorb the truly wonderful pattern that God provided in the Feast and its incredible fulfilment 1,500 years later, in the person of Jesus.

Thank you Lord, for what you have done for us.

SPRING FEASTS THE PATTERN OF THINGS PAST

The final descriptions from Scripture follow:

PASSOVER PARTICULARS and THEIR FULLFILLMENT IN JESUS (3rd of 3)

In our 3rd and final look at the Feast of Passover, we will consider the remaining 10 ways in which the feast lines up with the Cross of Jesus.

18. Safety Inside the Door of the House:

The Jews were instructed to stay inside during this time.

Exodus 12:22-24

Jesus is the blood sprinkled door and the church, His house, in which we are to stay inside, for our safety.

19. Explanation of the Ceremony:

Parents were expected to explain and pass on the ceremony to their children.

Exodus 12:25-28

Jesus was the fulfilment of the ceremony and we are to pass on and explain Him to our children.

20. A Distinction Between Egypt and Israel:

The Passover confirmed to the Jews the difference between themselves and the Egyptians.

Exodus 11:7

Jesus death created a difference between believers and the ‘world’. (symbolised by Egypt)

21. Plundering the Egyptians at the Exodus:

The Egyptians gave the Israelites all they asked for in terms of clothing to take on their journey and precious metals to help in the construction of the Tabernacle.

Exodus 12:31-36

Jesus provides us with the physical and spiritual wealth we need for our journey in Christ.

22. A Male Must be Circumcised to Participate

No foreigner, temporary resident or hired hand, nor any uncircumcised male, Israelite or foreigner, was allowed to eat of the Passover lamb.

Exodus 12:43-51

Jesus ‘qualified’ genuine believers to become ‘circumcised’ (of the heart) citizens of the New Covenant, able to participate in the Lord’s Supper.

23. A Sacred Assembly

An extra Sabbath – a day of rest - on which no work was to be done.

Exodus 12:16

Jesus, in becoming God’s lamb, did the full work for us. We therefore, are to cease from our own works and rest in Him.

24. Taken Out of Egypt

After 430 years, quite possibly to the very day, the Lord kept vigil to enable His people to leave Egypt.

Exodus 12:40-42

Jesus, through His death, enables His believers to leave the world, (symbolised by Egypt) and enter His heavenly kingdom.

25. Healing Power in the Lamb

God healed the sick amongst the people to enable
them to complete their journey.

Psalm 105:37

Jesus heals us to enable us to complete our spiritual journey.

26. The Song of Victory

The first song recorded in Scripture celebrates the
might and majesty of the Lord for delivering the people from their oppressors.

Exodus 15:1-18

Believers were, and are, able to sing a new song, for Jesus has removed us from the bondage of Satan. Hallelujah!

27. The Church of the Firstborn

After the Exodus, the church of the ‘firstborn’ was given by God to Israel, including hierarchy and ceremony.

Model of High Priest and Priests

Exodus 4:22-23, Hebrews 12:22-24

Jesus set up His church with hierarchy (apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers) and ceremony. (Communion)

Yes, Jesus completely and entirely fulfilled the Old Covenant (Testament) in these 27 ways (and likely more!), while at the same time setting up the New. The real tragedy of the situation is that His work was not recognised by the Jews themselves. For over the centuries, their worship had deteriorated from substance to form, until they were then unable to recognise the fulfilment of their dreams of 1500 years. Expecting an earthly type ‘king’ to deliver them from their undoubted distress, they sadly failed to understand that their Saviour was with them, offering Himself as a New Hope, the true fulfilment of 1500 years of ceremonials that had not worked. For

Hebrews 10:1

That can only be done by Jesus, as

Hebrews 10:8-10

So, it is obvious, far beyond reasonable doubt, that the first of the feasts, the Feast of Passover itself, has been completely fulfilled. Fulfilled both in the natural and the spiritual, through the death of Jesus on the cross. So let’s now move on to the next feast in the Passover grouping, the Feast of Unleavened Bread, to see if the same applies here too.

NEXT WEEK THE PROPHETIC FEASTS OF THE LORD - Series 1 - THE SPRING FEASTS - Part 5

The truths of Jesus, while detailed in the feast of Passover, are clearly seen in the remaining 2 of the the first feasts of the Jewish Religious Year, The Feasts of Unleavened Bread and Firstfruits.

A NOTE FROM DAVID

It is a truism that, 'the Old is in the New revealed.' Of course, Moses is the Old Testament picture of Jesus. We can now see how the two paralleled each other so clearly. My faith is just so much strengthened by this. Yours too?

The most prized yachting trophy in the world, the Americas Cup was won by Team New Zealand in 1995 and successfully defended in 2000, before being lost to a Swiss syndicate in 2003. This event combines space-like technology with teamwork. For a small country like New Zealand to be competitive was a modern miracle. (non-Jesus variety, of course!) New Zealanders are keen on the sea, as we have one of the longest coastlines for our land area in the world, and reasonable weather to enjoy it. In fact, you can't live more than 100km from the sea anywhere in NZ! So we produce lots of good sailors.

So until next week.......
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD!

His servant and yours
