SPIRITUAL IMPLICATIONS FOR US TODAY

The experience of Moses has important implications for us if we are to enter into the fullness of God's promises for us.

1. MOVING ON

Avoiding the natural human inclination to stick with what we know - the tried and true - which leads to spiritual death.

11 We have much to say about this, but it is hard to explain because you are slow to learn. 12 In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! 13 Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. (Hebrews 5:12-13)

1 Corinthians 3:1-4

For without the Spirit, we cannot understand the deep things of God.

1 Corinthians 2:14

2. OBEDIENCE TO THE HOLY SPIRIT

So we must obediently follow the guiding of the Holy Spirit.

9 However, as it is written: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him”— 10 but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11 For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man’s spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. (1 Corinthians 2:9-11)

3. THE DEEPER THINGS OF GOD

Are these available to us?

14 But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil. 6 Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, 2 instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. 3 And God permitting, we will do so. (Hebrews 5:14-6:3)

Yes, they are!

4. TOWARDS MATURITY

Which can only be attained through faith, testing and perseverance.

2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. 4 Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. (James 1:2-4)

5. TO RECEIVE 'THE CROWN OF LIFE'

That symbolically eluded Moses.

12 Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. (James 1:12)

TO FULLY SHARE IN GOD'S PROMISE FOR US WE MUST OBEDIENTLY FOLLOW THE GUIDANCE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN OUR LIVES, ACHIEVING MATURITY THROUGH FAITH, TESTING AND PERSEVERANCE.

NEXT WEEK: God and Man continues.......

As we commence our look at THE STEPS OF OBEDIENCE required in our life in order that we may claim our inheritance.

A NOTE FROM DAVID

From our human perspective, we feel that Moses got a 'rough deal' from God!

However, from God's perspective, obedience to His instructions, given both through the Word and the Holy Spirit, is required if we are to come to maturity in our 'walk with Jesus.'

For God's ways are greater than our ways! May we (me included) walk in His path today.

Jerusalem - Gates of the Old City - Dung Gate

The Dung Gate is mentioned in the book of Nehemiah as a dispatch point for the city's refuse. It would appear that it was through this gate that the refuse was removed from the city

So until next week.......
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD!

His servant and yours
