These 10 steps towards our inheritance are set out to help give an understanding of how God works in and through our lives. We can then become more aware of where we have been, where we are now and where it is likely we will be heading in the future, if we choose to be obedient to Him. THEY ARE NOT A DOGMATIC LIST OF THE 10 MAGIC STEPS TO BE TAKEN TO CLAIM THE HIGHEST PLACE IN HEAVEN!

The Lord is in control and He will

a. Place His hand individually upon each one of us as He chooses, at His timing and under His conditions.

b. Take us back down the steps, if we choose to be disobedient to Him.

What is being illustrated here is a pattern that emerges from the pages of the Bible, which at His choice, the Lord often uses to mature us towards becoming ...sons of God' (Romans 8:14)

Dealt with fully in the first part of our study on 'God and Man', so will not be repeated here.

The essential first step towards commencing our walk with God.

The resurrection (restoration) has also been fully dealt with earlier.

BAPTISM though, is an important step, publically signifying one's commitment to Christ.

a. INTRODUCED by John the Baptist as a sign of repentance for all (previously only non-Jews embracing the Jewish faith were baptised.

b. UNDERTAKEN by Jesus at His own request.

e. THE FULL THEOLOGICAL REASONING for baptism and its connection with resurrection and eternal life being set out clearly by Paul in Romans.

i. Baptism is for Believers not infants.

ii. Baptism is to be by Full Immersion as was shown in the example of Jesus and being approved of by God.

... as we look towards the next two steps in claiming our inheritance.

There have been divisions in the church over the necessity or otherwise of full immersion baptism.

Pool of Bethesda

The Pool of Bethesda (also known as Bethsaida) is located near the Sheep Gate just north of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. In his gospel account, John describes such a pool, surrounded by five covered colonnades (John 5:2). Until the 19th century, there was no archaeological evidence for the Pool of Bethesda, so skeptics used this as proof that John’s account was written by some later zealot who didn’t have eyewitness knowledge of Jerusalem or an actual pool called Bethesda.

Today, there’s really no question that archaeologists have uncovered the actual Pool of Bethesda where Jesus healed the invalid (John 5:1-15). The colonnades were visible to John at the time of Jesus, but the pool probably didn’t appear sunken and surrounded by walls like it does today.
