OUR SOURCE - GOD OR MAN

WE CAN TRUST GOD!

One of the biggest issues we have in making a decision on whether to trust God or man is our inability to see God, to hear Him personally and more.....

Instead, we look to people whom we believe, or who say they have, a greater relationship with Him than we perceive we have.

Ultimately this leads us back into pre Jesus roles where God related to people through the Priesthood. We rely upon the church, the pastor, minister or priest, to interact between God and us.

Yet this is the exact opposite of what Jesus came to do.....

21 but he became a priest with an oath when God said to him: ‘The Lord has sworn  and will not change his mind: “You are a priest for ever.”’ 22 Because of this oath, Jesus has become the guarantor of a better covenant. (Hebrews 7:21-2)

Our source of salvation and spiritual growth is Jesus who intercedes for us.....

Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died--more than that, who was raised to life--is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. (Romans 8:24)

We are to learn not only about Him through the Word, but also have the Holy Spirit as our teacher.....

26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. (John 14:26)

and again.....

27 As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit – just as it has taught you, remain in him. (1 John 2:37)

Sometimes we are frustrated, or uncertain, of feel far away from the Lord, but the Bible tells us what to do then also.....

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. (Romans 8:26)

We can trust Jesus.....

And again, ‘I will put my trust in him.’ And again he says, ‘Here am I, and the children God has given me.’ (Hebrews 2:13)

And as we learn to trust Him more and more He will give us the joy and peace we all crave.....

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13)

There is a beautiful poem that wonderfully explains our walk with Jesus if we will make Him our source of life....

 FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND

One night I dreamed a dream.
As I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
One belonging to me and one to my Lord.

After the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that at many times along the path of my life,
especially at the very lowest and saddest times,
there was only one set of footprints.

This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it.
"Lord, you said once I decided to follow you,
You'd walk with me all the way.
But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.

I don't understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me."

He whispered, "My precious child, I love you and will never leave you
Never, ever, during your trials and testings.
When you saw only one set of footprints,
It was then that I carried you."

FROM THE WORD

THE WORDS OF JESUS

May we hear what the Lord is saying to us.

Teaching in the Temple after the Feast (John 7:25-44)

Jesus questioned as to whether or not He is the Christ.

“So you think you know me and where I’m from? However I did not come for my own sake. The One who sent me is true. You don’t know him, but I know him, for I come from him, and he sent me.”

“I’ll be with you just a little longer, but then I’ll return to the One who sent me. You’ll search for me but you won’t find me; and you can’t come where I’m going.”

“If you’re thirsty, come to me and drink. If you trust in me, you will have streams of life-giving water flowing out from within you, as Scripture says.”

The Adulterous Woman (John 8:1-11)

Brought by the teachers and Pharisees to Jesus in the Temple for judgment.

“Whichever one of you has never sinned may throw the first stone at her.”.”

“Where are they? Didn’t anybody stay to condemn you?”

“I don’t condemn you either,” “Go, and don’t sin anymore.”

Jesus’ Testimony Questioned (John 8:12-30)

In the Temple Treasury, the Pharisees question the validity of Jesus’ origin.

“I am the light of the world. If you follow me you won’t walk in darkness for you will have the life-giving light.”

“You can’t be your own witness! What you say doesn’t prove anything!” “Even if I am my own witness, my testimony is true,” “for I know where I came from and where I’m going. But you don’t know where I came from or where I’m going. You judge in a typically way, but I don’t judge anyone. Even if I did judge, my judgment would be right because I am not doing this alone. The Father who sent me is with me. Your own law states that the testimony of two witnesses is valid. I am my own witness, and my other witness is my Father who sent me.”

“You don’t know me or my Father,” “If you knew me then you would know my Father as well.”

“I’m leaving, and you’ll search for me, but you’ll die in your sin. You can’t come where I’m going.”

“You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. That is why I told you that you’ll die in your sins. For if you don’t trust in me, the ‘I am,’ you’ll die in your sins.”

They now ask who he is.

“Exactly who I told you I was from the beginning,” “There’s much I could say about you, and much I could condemn. But the one who sent me tells the truth, and what I’m saying to you here in this world is what I heard from him.”

“When you have lifted up the Son of man then you’ll know that I am the ‘I am,’ and that I do nothing of

myself, but only say what the Father taught me. The One who sent me is with me; he has not abandoned me, for I always do what pleases him.”

BOOK OF THE WEEK

THINKING GREEK OR HEBREW:

Understanding Scripture as Jesus did.

One of the major causes of the church not truly walking in the ways of Jesus is that we don't truly understand what the ways of Jesus were, and are! For we view the Scriptures from a Greek (Western), rather than a Jewish (Eastern) perspective. The two are very different.

This book highlights the differences in interpretation between the cultures, opening up a new perspective on what it truly means to follow Jesus.

Join the many who have downloaded the 'The Words of Jesus'. I am sure you will be blessed by it, as I have been.

DAVID'S DOODLINGS

RELIGION, REVELATION  AND GOD'S KINGDOM

1032. Religion creates its own standard mould of monotonous mediocrity. God breaks moulds!

1033. Religion is centered upon man, the kingdom, upon God.

1034. Religion is the outcome of the institutionalization of a God given vision.

1035. Religion is based upon rules, God's kingdom upon obedience.

1036. Religion seeks to control the Spirit of God which His kingdom releases.

1037. Religion controls, God's kingdom releases.

1038. Religion seeks to define an infinite God. By definition, it is doomed to failure.

1039. Religion seeks to interpret the answers to life found in God's kingdom. Surely a direct approach is best.

1040. As religion goes, God's kingdom grows.

1041. Revelation and religion make incompatible companions.

LAUGHING AT OURSELVES

***Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves for they shall never cease to be amused***

*** Those who can't laugh at themselves leave the job to others. ***

457. TOO BUSY

So few people know the Bible nowadays!

I was standing downtown waiting on a bus. It was raining cats and dogs. A lady was standing next to me so I tried to be friendly and make conversation. 'If it keeps it up, we'll all have to buy an ark," I said.

"What's an ark?" she asked.

'You mean you haven't heard about Noah and the great flood and all those animals?" I asked incredulously.

"Look, mister," she replied, "I've only been in town for four days. I've scarcely had time to read a paper."

 456. EVERY WORD

One Sunday morning, after attending church services in Hartford, Connecticut, Mark Twain said to Dr. Doane, the minister: "I enjoyed your services this morning, doctor. I welcomed it like an old friend.

I have, you know, a book at home containing every word of it."

"You have not," said the indignant Dr. Doane. "I have so,"

countered Twain. "Then send it to me. I'd very much like to see it."

"I'll send it," promised Mark and the following day he sent the Reverend Dr. Doane an unabridged dictionary.

455. WHO WAS JESUS

There were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Black:
1. He called everyone "brother"
2. He liked Gospel
3. He couldn't get a fair trial

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Jewish:
1. He went into his father's business
2. He lived at home until he was 33
3. He was sure his mother was a virgin and his mother was sure he was God.

But then there were three equally good arguments that Jesus was Italian:
1. He talked with his hands
2. He had wine with every meal
3. He used olive oil

But then there were three equally good arguments that Jesus was a Californian:
1. He never cut his hair
2. He walked around bare foot all of the time
3. He started a new religion

But then there were three equally good arguments that Jesus was Irish:
1. He never got married
2. He was always telling stories
3. He loved green pastures

But the most compelling evidence of all - 3 proofs that Jesus was a woman:
1. He had to feed a crowd at a moments notice when there was no food
2. He kept trying to get a message across to a bunch of men who just didn't get it
3. Even when he was dead, he had to get up because there was more work for him to do.

FACTS FOR FUN

LAST WEEKS QUESTION: What is the connection of May Day to Robin Hood?

ANSWER:   The legendary Robin Hood is said to have died on May Day. (So he ‘may’ be well remembered!)

THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: Where did the expression ‘red herring’ originate?

SOME FUN FACTS

A LITTLE LARGER

All the planets in our solar system could be placed inside the planet Jupiter. (How to get them all there at once to prove it, is a problem.)

 A FLYING DIET

An insect exerts so much energy in one hour of flying that it may lose up to a third of its total body weight. (Why can't I do this?)

SNAIL TRAIL

The colourless, sticky discharge that a snail produces forms a protective carpet under them as they travel along. The discharge is so effective that they can crawl along the edge of a razor without cutting themselves. (Living life on the 'cutting edge'.)

MATHS

A student, needing some learning, goes to the pharmacy and asks what kind of knowledge pills are available. The pharmacist says, "Here's a pill for English literature." The student takes the pill and swallows it and has new knowledge about English literature!

"What else do you have?" asks the student.

"Well, I have pills for art history, biology, and world history," replies the pharmacist.

The student asks for these, and swallows them and has new knowledge about those subjects.

Then the student asks, "Do you have a pill for maths?"

The pharmacist says, "Wait just a moment," goes back into the storeroom and brings back a whopper of a pill and plunks it on the counter.

"I have to take that huge pill for maths?" inquires the student.

The pharmacist replied, "Well, you know--maths always was a little hard to swallow."

 THE MAGICIAN
"What's your father's occupation?" asked the school secretary on the first day of the new academic year.

"He's a magician, Ma'am" said Little Johnny.

"How interesting. What's his favorite trick?"

"He saws people in half."

"Gosh! now, next question. Any brothers or sisters?"

"One half brother and two half sisters."

Doc says, "What's the problem? Didn't the glasses help you?"

"The glasses are fine doc, but I just discovered I've been living with a water hose the past 2 years!"

UK Prime Minister Says Anglican Church Shouldn’t be Forced to Perform Gay Marriages

Veronica Neffinger | Editor, ChristianHeadlines.com | Friday, May 19, 2017

The Anglican Church has been locked in debate for some time now on the issue of same-sex marriage and if it should be permitted in the Church. Recently, UK Prime Minister Theresa May weighed in on the issue.

May, who is the daughter of a Church of England vicar and identifies as a Christian and a conservative, also says she personally supports marriage equality for all; however, she also was clear that marriage equality should not mean forcing the Anglican Church to accept and perform same-sex marriages.

In a Q&A with Pink News on Thursday, May stated, "We were very clear when we introduced the equal marriage legislation that it was not about forcing the Church of England to conduct marriage ceremonies, but removing a legal injustice.”

"As the established Church, it is in a different legal position from other churches or faith groups, so the law equalizing marriage had to recognize that. I strongly support equal marriage, and I know that these debates will continue, but it will have to be for the Church as a whole to decide if it wants to make a change to its Canon law,” continued May, according to The Christian Post.

THE PURGING OF THE CHURCH

The Lord has led me to go back to a sermon/prophecy I received in a group mailing, and filed, some time ago. It is by David Wilkerson.

David was the Founding Pastor of Times Square Church in New York City. He was called to New York in 1958 to minister to gang members and drug addicts, as told in the best-selling book, The Cross and the Switchblade.

After the introduction, he gave 11 bullet points about THE GLORIOUS FUTURE JUST AHEAD. As the Lord leads, I will expand on these challenging but inspiring aspects.

Let us begin'..

WAXING LYRICAL

My mind is abuzz with lots of different noise as I sit here writing this. A band practicing next door for a ball tonight (Saturday), radio going in the shop, people speaking to me, a Christian conference streaming from the internet! Bombarded with noise! Any wonder my brain is addled! This has been the result. Hope it makes some sense to you!

A DAVID MUSING

This has been a fundraising week for the Eye Clinic/Hospital we are going to set up in Webuye, Kenya. (See anaeye4africa.org)

This is not easy, for we all would prefer "pennies to fall from heaven"!

I do not like fundraising for something we are doing. And I know that if I am in His will, He will provide. However He provides through people. If we go and steal the 'cattle from the 1000 hills', the farmers would not be too happy.

So it is a conundrum.

As I came to write this, the Lord brought to my mind Romans 10:14.....

14How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? (Romans 10:14)

The principle behind this, the Lord showed me applies to us at this time. Bringing the Good News of salvation is essential if people are to hear, and have the opportunity to make a decision for the Lord. If people don't hear, so giving them the option to say yes or no, they will never have the opportunity to follow Jesus.

This is applicable to us, in this project the Lord has led us into. If people don't know about it, they will not have the opportunity to contribute to His work. So we have employed a broad brush approach through worldwide press releases, and and the fine brush, by sending details to those who could be interested in the project, including a NZ based Trust that finances similar projects.

Now the Lord can do His work.

Until next week.......

MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD.

His servant and yours

David Tait
