HEARING FROM GOD

A foundational key in seeing the kingdom established upon the earth is hearing accurately from God. One of knowing what God is saying to you and to me. For if we don't hear what His will is for us, then we wont know what to be obedient to!

This lack of understanding is a huge problem amongst believers today. To counteract our spiritual deafness, we blindly follow the traditions of those who have gone before us, the teachings of another, or our own whims and fancies.

Do not feel condemned, for we all fall into these traps from time to time. Yes, we are a mixture. A mixture of human and Holy Spirit, a mixture of old and new man nature.

Incredible as it seem to our understanding, God has but a single will, one to be implemented by us individually, and that is, to establish His kingdom upon the earth. If we were all hearing 100% accurately from God, there would be a single purpose amongst His people, something that patently, there isn't at the moment! Instead, we are mired in the minefield of denominational difference and division. Getting two Christians to agree is a miracle, the whole body of Christ, an impossibility!

Yet Jesus is to return for a united church. Leadership is to prepare us to attain this.....

13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. (Ephesians 4:13)

Division has been a problem since the very beginning of the church. Paul understood this principle of oneness of mind and was frustrated by its non-existence in the church of his day.

10 I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought. (1 Corinthians 1:10)

We will not be one with God until we come into this place of unity.

My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. (Colossians 2:2-3)

Jesus is to return, to and for, His one holy and righteous bride.

7 Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready. 8 Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear.” (Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of the saints.)(Revelation 19:7-8)

So how do we come to this unity? Firstly through communication with God and then, by obedience to what He tells us.

As we finish today I would like to envisage that you are climbing the mountain of God. The very presence of God is on the mountain peak. There are many tracks up the mountain. As we start our climb, the going is relatively easy. We can follow others ahead of us. Or make our way upwards through our own efforts. There are many ways in which to go. However, as the grasslands turn to forest and then to tundra and barren rock, the climb gets steeper and more difficult. We need training and discipline to climb higher. Finally we hit the snowline. There are rocky outcrops to be scaled and deep crevasses to be traversed. Now we need a guide to show us the way to the summit, into the very presence of God. We must hear from our guide, the Holy Spirit, and follow His instructions implicitly if we are to proceed further. For there is now but one way up the mountain. Many fall by the wayside, but the few persevere and reach the mountain peak. These are the bride, those who enter the kingdom, totally reliant upon their Father and giving all the glory to Him.

How is your mountain climb?

Are you accepting the invitation of Jesus to be His bride?

16 “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.” 17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” (Revelation 22:16-17a)

FROM THE WORD

Unity in the Body of Christ

"As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit— just as you were called to one hope when you were called— one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it. This is why it says: “When he ascended on high, he led captives in his train and gave gifts to men.” (What does “he ascended” mean except that he also descended to the lower, earthly regions? He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe.) 11 It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work." (Ephesians 4:1-16)

Divisions in the Church

"I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought. My brothers, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that there are quarrels among you. What I mean is this: One of you says, “I follow Paul”; another, “I follow Apollos”; another, “I follow Cephas”; still another, “I follow Christ.” Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized into the name of Paul? I am thankful that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius, so no one can say that you were baptized into my name. (Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I don’t remember if I baptized anyone else.) For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with words of human wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power." (1 Corinthians 1:10-17)

Paul’s Labor for the Church

"Now I rejoice in what was suffered for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ’s afflictions, for the sake of his body, which is the church. I have become its servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullness — the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the saints. To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. We proclaim him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ. To this end I labor, struggling with all his energy, which so powerfully works in me. I want you to know how much I am struggling for you and for those at Laodicea, and for all who have not met me personally. My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments. For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit and delight to see how orderly you are and how firm your faith in Christ is" (Colossians 1:24-2:5)

DAVID'S DOODLINGS

UNITY

213. United we stand, divided... God will wait upon another generation.

401. Unity in Christ is so close to God's heart but so far away from ours!

402. Why do we keep asking God for more strength, when He has already given us the answer - unity!

403. We keep looking for the unity of one world government to arise in the nations, but constantly fail to seek it in the church.

404. The Godhead is the ultimate example of how a many faceted Church is to become united as one.

996. Unity cannot be imposed from without, but needs to grow from within.

997. True unity is birthed in the Spirit, not imposed through a structure.

998. Unity develops in times of oppression. Bring on oppression Lord!

999. Satan divides, the Spirit unites. Who is winning the battle of your life?

CRANWELL'S CARTOON

17 When Moses sent them to explore Canaan, he said, “Go up through the Negev and on into the hill country. 18 See what the land is like and whether the people who live there are strong or weak, few or many. 19 What kind of land do they live in? Is it good or bad? What kind of towns do they live in? Are they unwalled or fortified? 20 How is the soil? Is it fertile or poor? Are there trees on it or not? Do your best to bring back some of the fruit of the land.” (It was the season for the first ripe grapes.) 21 So they went up and explored the land from the Desert of Zin as far as Rehob, toward Lebo Hamath. 22 They went up through the Negev and came to Hebron, where Ahiman, Sheshai and Talmai, the descendants of Anak, lived. (Hebron had been built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.) 23 When they reached the Valley of Eshcol, they cut off a branch bearing a single cluster of grapes. Two of them carried it on a pole between them, along with some pomegranates and figs. 24 That place was called the Valley of Eshcol because of the cluster of grapes the Israelites cut off there. 25 At the end of forty days they returned from exploring the land. (Numbers 13:17-25)

LAUGHING AT OURSELVES

***Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves for they shall never cease to be amused***

*** "Those who can't laugh at themselves leave the job to others." ***

235. CLERICAL CLOTHES
A priest was walking along the corridor of the parochial school near the preschool wing when a group of little ones were trotting by on the way to the cafeteria. Little Johnny stopped and looked at him in his clerical clothes and asked, "Why do you dress funny?"
He told him he was a priest and this is the uniform priests wear.
Little Johnny pointed to the priest's plastic collar tab and asked, "Do you have an owie?"

The priest was perplexed till he realized that to him the collar tab looked like a band-aid. So the priest took it out and handed it to Little Johnny, to show him. On the back of the tab were raised letters giving the name of the manufacturer.

Little Johnny felt the letters, and the priest asked, "Do you know what those words say?"
"Yes I do," said Little Johnny, who was not old enough to read. Peering intently at the letters he said, "Kills ticks and fleas up to six months!"

234. POPE IN HEAVEN
The Pope dies and goes to meet St. Peter at the Pearly Gates. St. Peter escorts him in, and shows him to his mansion. The Mansion is huge, with angels circling the outside, and a massive deck at the rear where the Pope can watch the heavens in his robe and relax in his golden lounge chair.

St. Peter says, "Just make yourself at home, I have some errands to attend to and I'll be back to see that you're settled in.". The Pope eases into his golden lounge chair, and a small angel brings him a cool glass of water to sip, at which point a golden table appears out of nowhere, in just the right spot for the Pope to put down the glass between sips. The Pope is amazed further to find that the glass is always full when he picks it up, never running dry.

As he sits relaxing, the Pope watches other mansions float by on their clouds, and while finding them beautiful, he also observes that his is larger than any of them, as befits a Pope. Then from a distance, the Pope hears this amazing music; He looks to his left, and far away he sees a mansion ten times the size of his. Angels, cherubim, and seraphim are circling it, and then there's that wonderful music.....

As the mansion draws close, the music gets louder, and louder, and as it passes by, the Pope has to cover his ears, because of the sheer volume.

Later, St. Peter returns. The Pope says, "This is really wonderful. I have seen God's own mansion float by! There were angels, cherubim, seraphim, and this wonderful music...". "Wait a minute," say St. Peter. "Was the music really loud?" "Yes", said the Pope.

"That wasn't God's mansion, that was Jimi Hendrix' place." "Jimi Hendrix???!!!" said the Pope. "Why does he have a mansion ten times the size of mine? I was the leader of the Catholic Church!"

"Settle down!" said St. Peter. "We get you Popes in here all the time. We don't get many musicians."

MAJOR EARTHQUAKE IN CHRISTCHURCH, NEW ZEALAND

I woke up early this morning (Saturday) to the news that there had been a 7.1 earthquake in the city of Christchurch. This has caused a considerable amount of damage, particularly to older buildings and infrastructure, but amazingly, probably because of its 4.35am time of occurence, there was no loss of life. Thank you Lord.

Christchurch is situated on the East Coast of the South Island, in a similar location to our city of Napier in the North Island. The comparisons do not end there. For New Zealand's most deadly earthquake was in Napier in 1931, where 256 people died, including my aunty, aged 6. The photo shows a destroyed building surrounded by other, more modern ones that escaped unscathed.

Since that time a stringent building code has been developed that makes New Zealand an expensive country to build in, but the benefits can really be seen today. The city survived, whereas in many places in the world it would have been a major disaster.

Kathy and I have only visited Christchurch half a dozen times in our lives, as the two main islands of NZ are separated a rough waterway called Cook Strait. Ironically we are flying there next weekend for a friend's 'big-0' birthday. This is a special treat for both us and them. We are so grateful that Roger wasn't born a week earlier!

We will report back on what we see.

PS: In a bad day for NZ, this afternoon there has also been a plane crash killing 9 people.

Disappointed Lutherans Form New Body Emphasizing Authority of Scripture

Sat, Aug. 28 2010

The North American Lutheran Church was born after an overwhelming vote during a meeting in Grove City, Ohio.

"Our Lord’s reconfiguring of the Lutheran landscape not only in North America, but worldwide, is breathtaking and exciting," said the Rev. Mark Chavez of Landisville, Pa. "It has been wonderful to witness the joy and hopeful excitement of so many Lutherans to move forward and do the main thing – proclaim Jesus Christ and His Gospel to make disciples."

Conservative Lutherans began forging the new body just weeks after the ELCA gave the green light in 2009 for non-celibate gays and lesbians to serve as clergy. Over the last year, hundreds of congregations have moved toward severing ties with the ELCA, which is the largest Lutheran denomination in the country with 4.5 million members.

The ELCA experienced its biggest-ever drop in membership last year, with 90,000 less members than the year before.

The vote on Friday to forge a new body took place during the annual Convocation of Lutheran CORE, a renewal group that seeks the renewal of Lutheran churches according to Holy Scripture and the Lutheran Confessions.

Lutheran CORE leaders have said that the problems in the ELCA are not about sexual behavior but rather about an ongoing movement away from the authority and teaching of the Bible throughout the ELCA. But they have noted that the vote on sexuality "opened the eyes of many to how far the ELCA has moved from Biblical teaching."

"The issue that really presented itself was the issue of sexuality, but back of that was the broader issue: Which is the authoritative voice of the church today?" said Paull Spring, NALC's first bishop, as reported by The Associated Press.

"Is it Holy Scripture, which Lutherans have always confessed; Scripture alone; or is [it] supposed to be some combination, that as well as some mood of the times?" he posed.

Representatives of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania and the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus – which are the second and third largest Lutheran churches in the world – attended the convocation and showed their support for the new body.

Spring commented, "Their presence among us is a reminder that we are not alone in our ministry and that we intend to forge strong ties and relationships with other Christian communities as we go forward in the North American Lutheran Church."

Provisional leaders were elected to one-year terms Friday. Participants also adopted a constitution for the NALC and voted to request membership in the Lutheran World Federation.

DAVID'S DOWNLOAD

EAGLES FLY HIGH!

A revelatory, scripturally based study describing God's church - Past, Present and Future. Contains many insights into God's desires for His people in these end times. This overview will help you both better understand the direction of the church as a whole and the place of your ministry within the overall picture.

INTRODUCTION

I became acquainted with David Tait when he did the Word of Life Bible and Discipleship Training Course in our church in 1991. His wife Kathy had completed the study the previous year.

Our association grew into friendship and then in 1994 David and Kathy joined our church (Abundant Life Community Church, Tauranga). Since then they have continued to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. They have learned to be content, regardless of the state they are in, whether having much or little.

During this time David has experienced remarkable business success and then seen a complete reversal of those fortunes. However his giving nature has not been affected by his circumstances. His desire to bless others through what he has experienced is reflected in this book, ‘Eagles Fly High!’

David has set out this book as a journey of his discovery of truth. He weaves this truth into practical illustration to help the reader identify with his walk in God. He has a unique ability to write about his relationship with God as seen in his everyday observations of himself and the environment around him. David’s pragmatic approach to life is shown in the way he presents his stories in parable form (and for those who may struggle with the interpretation, he gives the meanings of the key symbols at the end of the story).

The central theme of ‘Eagles Fly High!’ is the scripture from Revelation 12:11 – "and they overcame him (Satan) by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death". This is a three-part process leading to full maturity in the believer’s life and can be paralleled with the three Feasts of the Lord – Passover, Pentecost and Tabernacles, as well as the three areas of Moses’ Tabernacle – the Outer Court, the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place.

David’s desire is that all Christians understand and progress toward full salvation in Christ as revealed through these Old Testament pictures of New Testament truth.

I commend this book to you as a means of helping you to understand the journey in Christ that is before each one of us. May you be enthused and encouraged as you travel along the pathway that David maps out before you.

WAXING LYRICAL

Many expect life to be easy once they come to Jesus. But His life was not easy - and we are meant to be like Him!

LIFE'S ROSES AND THORNS

Life may be short,
It could be long.
Will we be caught?
Or end up strong?

Money comes,
Money goes.
We do our sums,
But no-one knows.

Healthy one day,
Sick the next.
For wellness we pray,
When ill - now vexed.

All's under control,
Now it falls apart!
We're first on a roll,
Then back to the start!

In God too, we must face this place,
For all's not smooth, in life's race.

Him we are called, ever to revere,
And in daily life, to persevere.

He hasn't promised a fine bed of roses,
Nor simple solutions, to all life poses.
For roses were created with thorns you see,
Representing life problems, for you and me.

Yet when we see the rose in triumphant bloom,
Its shining beauty overwhelming the gloom,
The thorns' pricks and scratches are all worthwhile,
Put aside, forgotten, when with pleasure we smile.

For there cannot be a rose, without the thorns,
So with trial and testing, we do lock horns.

In order to become the rose God wants us to be,
We must overcome the thorns of life, you see.

Then He will pick us, now His richest bloom,
Taking pride of place in His heavenly room.
Eternal blooms, never ever to fade,
For by His hand, we have been made.

When locking horns with our latest thorn,
Remember the rose - no, it does not mourn.
From glory to glory, we are being made,
The price of the Cross, now fully paid.

A DAVID MUSING

This week, my wife Kathy has been away from home for a few nights, firstly visiting her mother and then attending a Parish Nurses Conference.

It has been interesting living by oneself for this short time. For, without Kathy, I have been able to do what I wanted, when I wanted, without having to consider her. While it is interesting for a short time, I do much prefer it when she is home with me.

Set me thinking about my relationship with Jesus. What discipline does it place upon my life? None? A little? Or Much?

How considerate am I of Him?

I guess it depends where I am at spiritually, at any one time! The closer I am to Him, the more I will both desire, and be, obedient to His will for my life.

How is your 'Jesus quotient' today?

Until next week.......

MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD.

His servant and yours

WALKING WITH JESUS MINISTRIES is a non-profit, non-denominational, Bible based ministry located in Hastings, New Zealand. A ministry dedicated to developing discipleship, fostering unity amongst God’s people to achieve the Great Commission, and in doing so, preparing for Christ’s return. It is securely based upon the foundational principles of the Apostles Creed while recognising the wide and rich diversity of beliefs amongst Christians in other areas. In accordance with the Lord’s direction, materials produced by the ministry are available, free of charge, to genuine enquirers upon request. The ministry is solely funded by donations, as the Lord provides. A list of materials available (plus some fun!) is obtainable and freely downloadable from our website
wwj.org.nz or by contacting us as follows.

Our role is to bless and encourage those in ministry while promoting co-operation and unity of direction amongst the body of Christ, as emphasised 3 times by Jesus in His longest prayer, immediately prior to His arrest and crucifixion. "… so that they may be one as we are one." (John 17:12, 21, 23-4) Our website is currently being developed to encourage your participation one with another, to share resources, and to enable you to promote events and items of interest to the body as a whole – and have a smile while doing it!
