GODLY WORK - GOD'S WORK
There is so much confusion in the Christian world about 'work'! Most, but not all, understand the need to do it. The Bible tells us that Adam was perfectly made in order to 'work' the garden. Sadly, a task that proved more difficult once the forbidden fruit had been consumed. Having been horticulturists at various times during our lives, Kathy and I understand only too well, both the physical and time consuming 'pain' of weeding, plus the sapping effect of pests and diseases upon God's creation. In the New Testament too, there are clear commands not to be lazy - that we need to work to eat. At least we had too, until Western social welfare systems were introduced....
However, I have both observed and experienced the confusion there is when it comes to combining 'work' and 'God'. Are we working for ourselves? For God? A combination? Who tells us what work to do? Does effort equal success? And many more perplexing questions. These practical problems abound, both within the church and the secular world, which most Christians, of necessity, inhabit.
Let's see what sense we can make of this.
GODLY WORK
There are many sound principles in God's Word that we can, indeed should, apply to our work. When we follow them, we are likely to be more successful in the workplace, whether as employers or employees, than if we don't. Honesty, truth, punctuality, sowing and reaping, going the extra mile, and many more. These are well taught in the church.
When we apply these godly principles in the workplace, we can reasonably expect to be more successful than we would be otherwise. 'Godly work' then, is found in the application of the principles of God to the secular world. Of applying God's way to ideas and inspirations that originate in the heart of man. This is a fantastic way to work. To be a witness in the workplace, so becoming the light of Jesus to our workmates or employees.
GOD'S WORK
'God's work', on the other hand, comes not from the motivation of an individual/s heart/s, but as direct inspiration and instruction from God Himself. God does this in many ways. In visions and dreams, through supernatural circumstances and in many other means unique to us individually. Not though, like the overweight guy driving to work, who really wanted a cream cake from the bakery. Being a believer, he asked God to provide him with a carpark, should He want him to have it. On the 10th time round the block God provided one! An 'A' for perseverance, 'F' for hearing from God!
While radical, apart from lip service, it's my belief that all our work for God's kingdom should be founded upon this basis of the specific leading of God.
MIXING THE TWO
One of the major problems we face in the church is a mixing and blending of these two principles. Many churches are based upon the application of worldly management ideas, hopefully blended with godly principles, to create a 'successful' (generally judged by size) operation. Of taking ideas that have proved successful elsewhere and applying them to our situation. These generally fail. Or again, to do good community work, not because God has specifically directed us to that particular area, but simply because a need is there. Again, while providing a worthwhile social service, this method seldom serves to extend the kingdom. For society's needs are inevitably greater than our supply of services to meet them. So we need to be both selective and effective in the works we do, relying upon God to guide us.
APPLICATION TO THE KINGDOM
We have a struggle accepting the basic truth that God does not need our help, or guidance, to build His kingdom! But mostly, He does choose to use us. Only though, when we follow His instructions. But we see today, as there has always been, many seemingly successful churches operating using human methods tempered by godly principles. And there is always the huge temptation and pressure for us to follow the same path, for we can understand the principles involved, even if we are not as effective in applying them. There are super salespeople for God out there! They would be as effective in 'selling ice to Eskimos', to coin a phrase, as they are in selling God to people. They simply have the aptitude for it.
But the ways of God are different to those of man. Witness the growth of the church in China. Persecution there prevents crusades and public, 'good works'. Everything, to Western Christian eyes on how a successful church should be run, is against its success. Yet it continues to grow in a way unimaginable in the Western world with our sophisticated, human based programmes.
So let's put aside our natural desire to imitate other's seeming success in imitating worldly principles to the operation of the church. Instead, let's seek the heart of God for His specific leading and guidance in our unique situation. Forget about the 'growth seminars' and 'how to' books. Instead, spend time on our knees, seeking God's heart for our situation. Then, to be satisfied with what He asks us to do, be it big, small, or for a season, not at all. In this way, we will find peace and rest in our Lord, and will truly be effective in building God's kingdom upon the earth.
Lord, remove our pride and our human desire to be successful in the sight of man. May I simply be obedient to your will for me.

FROM THE WORD
"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.†" (Genesis 1:27-8)"By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be careful how he builds. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man’s work. If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. 15 If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames. Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him; for God’s temple is sacred, and you are that temple. Do not deceive yourselves. If any one of you thinks he is wise by the standards of this age, he should become a “fool†so that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftinessâ€; and again, “The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.†So then, no more boasting about men! All things are yours, whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future—all are yours, and you are of Christ, and Christ is of God." (1 Corinthians 3:10-23)
"For it seems to me that God has put us apostles on display at the end of the procession, like men condemned to die in the arena. We have been made a spectacle to the whole universe, to angels as well as to men. We are fools for Christ, but you are so wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are honored, we are dishonored! To this very hour we go hungry and thirsty, we are in rags, we are brutally treated, we are homeless. We work hard with our own hands. When we are cursed, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it; when we are slandered, we answer kindly. Up to this moment we have become the scum of the earth, the refuse of the world. I am not writing this to shame you, but to warn you, as my dear children. Even though you have ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel. Therefore I urge you to imitate me." (1 Corinthians 4:9-16)

DAVID'S DOODLINGS
SUBMISSION AND OBEDIENCE915. Obedience to God's will for you life is the highest call.
916. Belief is of the mind, worship of the heart, but obedience is of the will.
917. The greatest change we can make is from gratifying our own will to obeying God's will for our life.
918. Obedience to God's will and ways is the very core of the Gospel.
919. Christian maturity develops as we submit to the will of God for our life.
920. In the world, submission is weakness, in God, strength.
921. In the world, submission comes from without, in God, from within.
922. I obey my master. The question is, "who is your master?"
923. Disobedience comes from Adam and Eve. Obedience is modelled by Jesus. Whom will we follow?
924. Disobedience is selfish, Godly obedience, selfless!
925. Obedience and suffering are common bedfellows.

FROM YOU - TO ME - TO YOU
DavidIt's me- Greg in Hobbs, New Mexico, who just read those letter's and felt the urge to try and contact you about that fellow Nazarene who wrote that big letter and a few of those other's who see distraught. Just to get things straight, that pastor needs to be aware that the Nazarene demon started out as Pentecostal Nazarene!!!. When emotion's seemed to get the better of too many, and money became a focus for the Pentecostal type's they detached from being 'full gospel', speaking in tongues and such. Yet, our church took me and Sharla in knowing that this Nazacathlibapticostal and her P.H. background were different and wouldn't push it on anybody. I don't jump up and down or roll on the floor, and she doesn't either, yet so many are so confused, and that's what I read on those 2 other's you showed us (which I'm sure is just a tiny sample of the thousand's you get all the time. Unfortunately, there are too many on TV and such that are living in mansion's and flying jet's and such (my friend, Bill Keller, of Liveprayer in Forida, whose been in jail and for the last 15 raised an incredible ministry, like you's, just sent an e-mail today telling us how his office's are in back of a motor shop and his office is spare, because he feel's just like you a the other minority, that $ is not for self, but for growth of faith. He's been warning American's for the last few year's about how money is the center of the majority, and God's blessing is about to be withdrawn.
I might have told you about my situation, and how success and prosperity were my focus for the majority of my life- I had to be the best at whatever I did (do, sometimes- I don't struggle with it anymore, I just stop, is all- no energy!) which had a lot to do about my upbringing and abuse. Now, having passed the half century mark @ 51, I am on my invested Social Security (thank God!) and occasional consultant $, to which we live by God's grace constantly. You, my friend, are one of those source's.
Thanks and blessings galore to you and your's.

David
I love your emails. I have a question God said a Church divided cannot stand. So why do we have so many religions? There was only one faith one religion until Martin Luther decided to break off. He had good reasons but instead of trying to correct the evil that crept into the church he broke off. And because he broke away there are now hundreds and hundreds of various and false religions. Why cannot we all go back to the original religion which came from Jesus Christ. I love your email. Well I guess I said that, sorry for repeating myself.
Margarita Sweeta
Hi Margaret
It is a big question!
In my opinion, the answer is that man stopped listening to God and organised 'religion' to suit his/her own needs. So the original church was first organised into the Roman Catholic 'religion' and from Martin Luther onwards, when God started restoring some of the lost revelation, man has again sadly, organised themselves into lots of different denominations based on individual revelations. However God has promised that, in His end times, He will call out a united (in spirit) church with a real heart for Him. I look forward to that. There are already signs of that beginning to happen.
I hope this helps
Blessings

HI DAVID,
ANOTHER GOOD ISSUE. RE THE BLAME GAME; WHY DO WE HAVE TO ALWAYS TRY TO FIND SOMEONE TO BLAME THINGS ON? HAVE WE FORGOTTEN THAT WHERE, HOW, WHEN ETC., IS OFTEN A CONSEQUENCE OF ACTIONS THAT WE INITIATED!
SOMEHOW IN THIS COUNTRY I FEEL THAT ''RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOURSELF'' HAS TAKEN A BACK SEAT TO THINKING ABOUT ACCEPTING THAT I DID THIS AND THIS, EQUALS THAT.
AN EXAMPLE IS; I AM AN AMPUTEE AND IT IS THE MARINE CORPS FAULT. FIRST, I SHOULD REMEMBER THAT NO ONE FORCED ME TO JOIN THE MARINE CORPS AND SO ULTIMATELY, IT IS MY OWN FAULT. MY ENERGY CAN BETTER BE SPENT DEVELOPING KNOWLEDGE FROM MY EXPERIENCE AND CHUCK OUT THE REST.
ALL THIS ''WHO'' FROM GOD ON DOWN TO BLAME THE CURRENT MESS WE HAVE OVER THE DEVASTATION LEFT BY KATRINA. I PERSONALLY DON'T NECESSARILY SEE IT AS A JUDGMENT BUT MORE AS A WITHHOLDING OF PROTECTION BY THE LORD, AND FEEL I CAN BETTER USE THE ENERGY IT MIGHT TAKE IN ALL THIS TO FIND WAYS I CAN BE OF SERVICE.
AS AN ASIDE, I ALSO DON'T THINK OF GOD AS BEING UP THERE IN HIS HEAVEN SO MUCH AS HEAVEN BEING UP THERE IN GOD., THE WORD IS CLEAR THAT THERE IS NO PLACE, TIME OR ANYTHING WHERE GOD IS NOT. LETS STOP TRYING TO PUT GOD IN A BOX AND JUST GET ON WITH THE BUSINESS OF LIVING IN THE HERE AND NOW AND TRYING TO LIVE SO THAT WE ARE SUCH THAT WE MIGHT MAKE GOD SMILE AND NOT CRY.
BLESSINGS TO, WITH AND ON YOU AND YOURS.
CARL

LAUGHING AT OURSELVES
***Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves for they shall never cease to be amused****** "Those who can't laugh at themselves leave the job to others." ***
419. THE NEWBORN
A proud mother named Ella brought her newborn baby to a church social one afternoon.
The ladies were all making a fuss over Ella's baby.
Like any good mother, Ella was closely watching her newborn when she saw a little girl approach. The little girl started having a very one way conversation with the infant.
When the little girl began asking the newborn questions, Ella smiled at her and said, "The baby can't talk yet."
The little girl, in all innocence, looked up at Ella and asked, "Does it need new batteries?"
418. CHRISTMAS DINNER
Four-year-old Veronica was asked to give thanks before Christmas dinner. The family members bowed their heads in expectation.
Veronica began her prayer by thanking God for all her friends, naming them one by one. Then she thanked God for Mommy, Daddy, brother, sister, Grandma, Grandpa, and all her aunts and uncles.
Then she began to thank God for the food. She gave thanks for the turkey, the dressing, the fruit salad, the cranberry sauce, the pies, the cakes, even the Cool Whip.
Suddenly Veronica fell silent. Everyone waited and waited.
After a long silence, the young lass looked up at her mother and asked, "If I thank God for the broccoli, won't He know that I'm lying?"

FACTS FOR FUN
LAST WEEKS QUESTION: Why do scientists describe cancer cells as ‘immortal’?ANSWER: : Normal cells divide a limited amount of times (usually no more than 50-60 times) before they die. Cancer cells, however, proliferate indefinitely in culture. A cancer cell will go on and on doubling, one cell becoming two, then four, then eight, etc.... Normal cells, when placed in a tissue culture dish, proliferate until a single layer of cells just touching each other covers the surface of the dish. Mitosis (cell replication) then stops. Cancer cells, on the other hand, show no such ‘contact inhibition’. They continue to divide, piling up into actual mounds. It is this that makes cancer cells so damaging to an organism. (Too much of a bad thing!)

BASIL
Some people can inspire in the midst of terminal pain and suffering, My mate Basil was one of those.BASIL
It comes to us all, once to die,
Our best to ignore it, we do try.
Don’t know how, nor when, nor where,
Until death, in the face, does us stare.
For most, the sands of time predictably flow,
Plenty of life, our ultimate destiny to know,
Three score years and ten, normally more,
The last few perhaps, may be a chore.
For some though, death comes as a shock,
A life snuffed out at the tick of a clock,
In the fiery inferno of a collapsing tower,
Or a car, ramming another at full power.
But our Basil was chosen for a different task,
A walk through sickness and pain was his ask.
God knew what an inspiration he would be,
And he surely was, both to you and to me.

A DAVID MUSING
You never know what's coming up in God! One minute you are going about your daily routine, the next you receive an inspiration - usually requiring perspiration!During the past week I have had 2 such moments! Firstly, for a new teaching about the 3 gardens of God. You (and I) will have to wait to find out what these are about, once the teaching is written!
Then, later in the week, came a leading to produce an audio CD/Tape of Psalms of comfort and encouragement for the downhearted and the dying. I did this once, years ago, for another friend who died of cancer (not Basil of the poem above), and he played it over and over. When I have mentioned this project to people, the reaction has been hugely positive.
Tonight (Sunday evening) we heard of yet another friend succumbing to the disease. I am now only sorry that I didn't have the tape ready some weeks ago, for Jeanette, for her final days before joining Jesus.
The point, other than not knowing when it is our appointed time to die, is that we need always be open to God's leading and inspiration. Too often we are so busy with the immediate, with our own plans, that we are unable to hear His!
"Lord, may we always be open to hear from you."
So until next week...
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD.
His servant and yours
