SERMON ON THE MOUNT - THE KINGDOM WAY
Do Not Worry
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?
28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
(Matthew 6:25-34)
EXPOSITION: The essence of this principle of Jesus revolves round where our heart is. Is our heart motivation centred upon the world with it's cares and worries or focused upon the kingdom of God? If we focus upon the kingdom our earthly requirements (not wants) will be provided for us.
TESTIMONY: In our family, as we grew up, my mother was the worrier. Now, in her later years, she has almost overcome this trait. Dad, on the other hand, was the super optomist. It is said that opposites attract! Certainly applied to my parents - in this area at least.
I am of course, a mixture of my parents, but my nature tends towards the optimism of my father, although expressed in a less exuberant way. The result of my mothers influence.
However, this teaching of Jesus was not really about optimism and pessimism, but rather, about what is the focus of our life. What is our priority in life? Are we focused on the spiritual or the natural? Looking after ourselves in the here and now, or building up treasures in heaven? Building our own kingdom, or building the kingdom of God upon the earth?
There is indeed a battle in all our lives in this area. So easily the 'tyranny of the present', the reality of our circumstances, overrules the seemingly ethereal requirement of Jesus to build His kingdom, both in our lives and in the world in which we live.
For me, a major test, which I failed at the time, came 10 years ago, when Jesus called me into a fulltime, unpaid ministry. As I have explained previously, I first tried to make provision for myself and my family which turned out to be a disaster, resulting in bankruptcy.
That certainly challenged my focus and determination! Would I give up on the ministry, or rely upon Him to provide for us?
The past 10 years has been an interesting journey for us. No, we haven't had all our 'wants' met, but our 'needs' have been. Although we never have been profligate spenders, we did formerly have the choice to do many things, overseas holidays being one example, that we do not have the option to do now. We certainly live more simply, having the things we need, although not all we might want.
We do not have property or savings, so are reliant upon Him for our future provision. A worry? Being honest, sometimes, when we look at our friends. But I, in particular, for Kathy has never been particularly money orientated, have had to learn to believe what Jesus promises here. Yes, it is foolish in the eyes of the world. Many would regard me as irresponsible. But I do place my trust in His promises.
How about you?

FROM THE WORD
"“Be on your guard against men; they will hand you over to the local councils and flog you in their synagogues. On my account you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles. But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. “Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death. All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. I tell you the truth, you will not finish going through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes. “A student is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. It is enough for the student to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebub, how much more the members of his household! “So do not be afraid of them. There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs. Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. “Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven. “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn â€â€˜a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law— a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’ “Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. “He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives the one who sent me. Anyone who receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and anyone who receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man will receive a righteous man’s reward. And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward.â€" (Matthew 10:17-42)Signs of the End of the Age
"Some of his disciples were remarking about how the temple was adorned with beautiful stones and with gifts dedicated to God. But Jesus said, “As for what you see here, the time will come when not one stone will be left on another; every one of them will be thrown down.†“Teacher,†they asked, “when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are about to take place?†He replied: “Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am he,’ and, ‘The time is near.’ Do not follow them. When you hear of wars and revolutions, do not be frightened. These things must happen first, but the end will not come right away.†Then he said to them: “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven. “But before all this, they will lay hands on you and persecute you. They will deliver you to synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors, and all on account of my name. This will result in your being witnesses to them. But make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves. For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict. You will be betrayed even by parents, brothers, relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death. All men will hate you because of me. But not a hair of your head will perish. By standing firm you will gain life." (Luke 21:5-19)

DAVID'S DOODLINGS
WORRY96. Definition of a worrier – one who worries that they have nothing to worry about.
97. I can never catch up with my worries, for they are all about tomorrow.
98. Rarely does tomorrow’s worry become today’s problem.
99. Today’s worry rarely solves tomorrow’s problems.
100. An apple a day keeps the Doctor away, but a worry a day keeps him fully employed.
101. Repentance is when you change a ‘worry’ into a ‘sorry.’
102. Laughter is the only medicine I know where the side effects are even more beneficial than the medicine itself.
103. After birth on earth, a dearth of mirth reduces self-worth, leading to an increased girth.

CRANWELL'S CARTOON
5 So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him. 6 The night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries stood guard at the entrance. 7 Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. “Quick, get up!†he said, and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists. 8 Then the angel said to him, “Put on your clothes and sandals.†And Peter did so. “Wrap your cloak around you and follow me,†the angel told him. 9 Peter followed him out of the prison, but he had no idea that what the angel was doing was really happening; he thought he was seeing a vision. 10 They passed the first and second guards and came to the iron gate leading to the city. It opened for them by itself, and they went through it. When they had walked the length of one street, suddenly the angel left him. 11 Then Peter came to himself and said, “Now I know without a doubt that the Lord sent his angel and rescued me from Herod’s clutches and from everything the Jewish people were anticipating.†12 When this had dawned on him, he went to the house of Mary the mother of John, also called Mark, where many people had gathered and were praying. 13 Peter knocked at the outer entrance, and a servant girl named Rhoda came to answer the door. 14 When she recognized Peter’s voice, she was so overjoyed she ran back without opening it and exclaimed, “Peter is at the door!†15 “You’re out of your mind,†they told her. When she kept insisting that it was so, they said, “It must be his angel.†16 But Peter kept on knocking, and when they opened the door and saw him, they were astonished. (Acts12:5-16)

LAUGHING AT OURSELVES
***Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves for they shall never cease to be amused****** "Those who can't laugh at themselves leave the job to others." ***
72. HEAVENLY INSPIRATION
The temporary Sunday School teacher was struggling to open a combination lock on the supply cabinet.
She had been told the combination, but couldn't quite remember it. Finally she went to the pastor's study and asked for help.
The pastor came into the room and began to turn the dial. After the first two numbers he paused and stared blankly for a moment. Finally he looked serenely heavenward and his lips moved silently.
Then he looked back at the lock, and quickly turned to the final number, and opened the lock.
The teacher was amazed. "I'm in awe at your faith, pastor," she said.
"It's really nothing," he answered.
"The number is on a piece of tape on the ceiling."
71. THANK YOU JESUS
Faith, 3, went to Good Friday services. That night she prayed, "Thank You, Jesus, for dying on the Cross. And thank You we didn't have to watch!"
70. TRUE REDEMPTION
While handing a 25 cent-off coupon to the supermarket clerk at the checkout counter, a woman inadvertently missed her hand, and the coupon slipped beneath the scale and was gone.
The checker looked distressed, so I the woman said, "That's Okay, it's in coupon heaven now."
"Coupon heaven?", the checker said.
"Yes", the woman said, "That's where coupons go when they die."
"Only the redeemed ones!", said the checker.

FACTS FOR FUN
LAST WEEKS QUESTION: How long was the world's longest prayermeeting?
ANSWER: How long does prayer meeting last in your church? Do the
‘fidgits’ set in after ten or twenty minutes? Let’s say the average prayer
meeting is an hour. But the world's longest Prayer Meeting? Multiply an
hour by 24; multiply that by 365; and then multiply that by 100! That
tallies up to 876,000 hours. The longest prayer meeting in the world
actually lasted even longer than that! It began on August 27, 1727, in
Herrnhut, Germany, when Moravians under Count von Zinzendorf
commenced an around-the-clock prayer chain that lasted more than one
hundred years! (Generations of prayer warriors involved?)

PETS RULE!
47. KITTEN CAPERSAs chaplain in a university residence hall, I am supposed to uphold all of the school rules, which include a ban on pets. That changed when a kitten adopted me.
The freshmen in my dorm kept my secret. They covered for me by calling my kitten "the Book," since I had so many in my room.
One morning I was leaving the dorm with the kitten in a carrier. A student stopped me and asked, "Where are you taking the Book?"
I explained that I was taking the kitten to the vet. "She's getting neutered today," I told him.
"Hmmm," the student responded, "no sequels."
48. PERFECT!
My sister-in-law, a truck driver, had decided to get a dog for protection. As she inspected a likely candidate, the trainer told her, "He doesn't like men."
"Perfect," my sister-in-law thought and took the dog.
Then one day she was approached by two men in a parking lot, and she watched to see how her canine bodyguard would react. Soon it became clear the trainer wasn't
kidding. As the men got closer, the dog ran under the nearest car.
49. DR CUTTER
Dr. Cutter is the local Veterinarian, known for his wry humor. He surpassed himself one summer day when a city dog was brought to him after an encounter with a porcupine. After almost an hour of prying, pulling, cutting and stitching, he returned the dog to its owner, who asked what she owed.
"A hundred and fifty dollars, Ma'am," he answered.
"Why that's simply outrageous!" she stormed. "That's what's wrong with you Maine people, you're always trying to over charge summer visitors. Whatever do you do in the winter, when we're not being gypped here?"
"Raise porcupines, Ma'am.

The Church in Burma is Growing Despite Obstacles
By Michael IrelandChief Correspondent, ASSIST News Service
MYANMAR (BURMA) (ANS) -- Devastating cyclones, bitter ethnic wars, and human rights abuses have all had a part in contributing to the poverty and spiritual darkness that characterizes Myanmar, which was formerly known as Burma.
Despite this opposition, the church in Burma is gaining ground against principalities, powers, rulers of darkness and spiritual wickedness in high places, according to a report from Christian Aid (www.christianaid.org ) .
Christian Aid assists a number of ministries in Burma, which remain unnamed for their security, who submitted the following reports concerning their various strategies for spreading the gospel.
"I am conducting meetings with the churches, pastors, and workers, exhorting them to stand firm in the faith," said one ministry leader.
"These are fiery times for testing their faith. The government has put high restrictions on work among the cyclone victims. They presume that what we are doing is for political purposes. (Even Buddhist monks and laymen, interested in helping victims, are being persecuted. Some were caught and sentenced to very long jail terms -- 45 to 65 years!)."
"Because of your faithful and consistent support, my workers and I were able to reach 300 Buddhists. We shared about the last days and distributed tracts among them. In another area we were able to distribute rice and used clothing, as well as medicine for the elderly and ailing. This particular tribe lives in a secluded area, so we were able to preach the gospel," said another leader.
"The mobile clinic you helped open allowed us to treat 1,130 patients. Many of them were elderly, who shed tears of joy. They were so grateful for this display of Christian love."
Bible Teaching and Training
Yet another brother, who leads a teaching ministry, remembers a time when confusion arose among the churches in Burma due to a lack of theological training.
"This was in the 70's and even though a revival swept through the country, there were no reputable Bible schools. Church leaders of that era left the country and enrolled in schools in other areas of the world. When they completed their studies, they returned to Burma to launch an indigenous ministry."
He added: "We began with only four faculty members and 77 students our first year. But despite opposition to the Bible, the Lord, and Christians in general, this ministry is going forward. With help received from Christian Aid recently, we were able to assist 20 more Bible students from the scholarship fund. We also have a Bible correspondence course available for those wanting to learn more about Jesus, or who find it difficult to leave their current ministry for an extended period."
Church Planting meets needs, builds relationships
"Week-long evangelistic camp meetings in remote towns and villages are held wherever the Lord opens the door," says another ministry leader.
"Relationships are built by providing for some of their needs, such as food, medicine, and nursing care. The Word is preached and Bibles are given out. When our evangelistic team leaves the village, we leave behind a church planter. In time he will disciple a vessel chosen from the tribe to become the church leader. This new disciple is then brought back to our training center for three months of training. When he returns to his village, he will take over as pastor. Our original worker is then 'rotated' into another un-reached area," explains another Burmese leader.
Christian Aid says that while much has been accomplished, much needs to be done.
The ministry explains: "Many people who survived the cyclone are still without adequate shelter or other basic necessities. More follow-up is needed in the remote villages where the gospel has been heard for the first time. Income generating projects, such as raising pigs or ducks, will help the people re-establish their lives. (Businesses that were destroyed during the cyclone are no longer a source of income.)"
"Please continue to pray for our ministry," writes Brother G. "My most pressing goal is to witness in every nook and corner of our country before the imminent return of our Lord Jesus."
Christian Aid seeks to establish a witness f our Lord Jesus Christ among unreached people groups by assisting highly effective native missionaries who already know the language and culture and are getting the job done for less cost.

WAXING LYRICAL
This poem was written after becoming saddened, almost disillusioned, by the disagreements and arguments I have been witnessing on an internet forum I belong to, between supposedly 'mature' Christians, mainly ministers, who are meant to working together towards unity! How God must cry! I do!Incidentally, we have had severe floods in New Zealand over the past few days. God's tears? Maybe increased floods aren't a result of global warming after all! But of the divisions in His church!
NOT SURE I WANT TO GO TO HEAVEN ANY MORE!
Not so sure I want to go to heaven any more!
For what I see here, shakes me to the core.
What if heaven was to be the same?
Who would there be to blame!
Not so sure I want to go to heaven any more!
When all I see is raging arguments to the fore.
What if heaven was to be the same?
Who would there be to blame!
Not so sure I want to go to heaven any more!
For we fight on earth and resentments store.
What if heaven was to be the same?
Who would there be to blame!
Not so sure I want to go to heaven any more,
Down here, splits and divisions are folklore.
What if heaven was to be the same?
Who would there be to blame!
Not so sure I want to go to heaven any more!
Disagreement's so rife, just become a bore!
What if heaven was to be the same?
Who would there be to blame!
So maybe I should go to go to heaven now,
To see how God deals with our sacred cow.
Surely heaven can not be the same?
There would only be God to blame!
So how about building His Kingdom on earth?
There's a radical thought, has some worth!
Surely church wouldn't be the same?
When God's kingdom, to earth came!
My friend, we simply have the choice,
To disagree, or speak with one voice.
To defend to the end where we come from,
Or get on with it, and build His Kingdom.
His Kingdom now, has is to be within you see,
Comes as we let Him deal with you and me.
When we go on to seek His heavenly will,
Division and strife, His will, will kill!
The kingdom that disagreement sows,
Is built by treading on other's toes.
But the heavenly kingdom that God does see,
Is founded upon co-operation and unity.
Will you help ease God's frustrations,
By taking the gospel to the nations?
Putting aside, that which does now divide,
The salvation message, others to provide.
Not one has entered through division and strife,
For words spoken in anger do not bring life.
Theological argument hasn't saved a single soul,
Nor a dearly held doctrine made a seeker whole.
But what works every time is a witness of love,
Putting aside the jackal to become the dove.
Yes, as we build His Kingdom on earth you see,
Together, we can all look forward to eternity.

CREATIVE!Would like to write a poem
to express my creative side,
But first you need to 'knowem'
To be imaginative inside.
But that is just a struggle,
as with busyness I juggle.
So this offering will be very short,
Even though I have lot's to report.
Maybe next week I will have more time,
Time for the jingling bells to chime.
But then again, the weeks may be two,
Slipping both feet into a single shoe.
Or maybe three, or even four,
as we open, our new store,
Enough of this trash,
Now I must dash!
See you again soon,
Is what I croon,
Goodbye for now,
Don't be sour,
Still can smile,
Go extra mile.
Do wend,
The end!
Until next week...
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD.
