MUSINGS ON THE KINGDOM - PAST, FUTURE AND PRESENT
KINGDOM PRESENTIf we accept that there is a 'kingdom present' then we must ask, "Where is this kingdom?'
The Bible contains the answer, straight from 'the horses mouth' so to speak, in the words of Jesus.
20 Once, having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, 21 nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is within you.†(Luke 17:20-21)
The kingdom is within because the Holy Spirit, ie. God, dwells within each believer.
15 “If you love me, you will obey what I command. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. (John 14:15-17)
This has huge implications for us, ones we all too often forget or choose to ignore.
The Spirit of God lived within Jesus:
19 Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.†20 The Jews replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?†21 But the temple he had spoken of was his body. (John 2:19-21)
Today we have obtained our inheritance and have individually become temples of God:
16 Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you? (1 Corinthians 3:16)
Firstly we must honour God with our body, with our thoughts and actions.
19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
Most of us know this, even if we don't always live it.
However, there is a second implication of the kingdom being within, the understanding of which will radically alter our lives and our understanding of how we 'do church'.
Under the present church system, in particular in 'Spirit filled' situations, we are encouraged to come forward for prayer, generally after the message, if we have any needs. Someone will then pray for us. This seems great. But is it right? In certain circumstances it may be helpful to receive this form of support, but in general, this is not the kingdom understanding and way. For the kingdom is within us and therefore our primary communication channel should be directly between ones self and God.
The Holy Spirit inside is our counselor and guide:
13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. (John 16:13)
We are to approach God personally and confidently with our requests. No intermediary is required:
14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. (1 John 5:14)
The primary teacher and guide in our life is to be the Holy Spirit, who inhabits the kingdom within you and within me. Not the minister, pastor, priest, teacher, prophet, evangelist or apostle, but the Holy Spirit who dwells within.
24 See that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father. 25 And this is what he promised us—even eternal life. 26 I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray. 27 As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him. (1 John 2:24-27)
The focus of our understanding is wrong. We are not to follow a leader, whatever the title or function, but are to develop and fine tune our spiritual faculties so that we both hear and obey the leading of the Holy Spirit who dwells inside of us. We must become God focused in all that we do.
This has huge implications for leadership. It is nice to pray for people. Our motivation may be wonderful, to help people in need. But all too often, we end up becoming a crutch upon whom our people rely, rather than seeking God's will for themselves.
Next time you look to have an altar call, how about being really radical, and ask the people to pray to God personally, without intervention by others, and then to personally wait upon and listen for a response from Him.
Such is the way of the kingdom.

FROM THE WORD
Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit"“If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.†Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?†Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me. “All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. “You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe. I will not speak with you much longer, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold on me, but the world must learn that I love the Father and that I do exactly what my Father has commanded me. “Come now; let us leave." (John 14:15-31)
The Work of the Holy Spirit
"“Now I am going to him who sent me, yet none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ Because I have said these things, you are filled with grief. But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me; in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned. “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you. “In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me.†(John 16:5-16)
Warning Against Antichrists
"Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour. They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us. But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth. I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it and because no lie comes from the truth. Who is the liar? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a man is the antichrist—he denies the Father and the Son. No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also. See that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father. And this is what he promised us—even eternal life. I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray. As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him." (1 John 2:18-27)

DAVID'S DOODLINGS
RELIGION, REVELATION AND GOD'S KINGDOM1058. Religion may well be the opiate of the masses, but God's kingdom is possessed by the godly, right now!
1059. Religion comes and religion goes, but God's kingdom goes on forever.
1060. God's kingdom now isn't freely given, but possessed through godly obedience.
1061. God reveals, while religion conceals.
1062. Religion is not a church but a mind closed to change.
1063. Revelation is from without, while the heart of religion is birthed within.
1064. Revelation sows, religion mows!
1065. Religion is not the church, but the church too easily becomes religion.
1066. Religion kills, God upskills.
1067. Religion is a gathering of like minds, God's kingdom, one of godly natures.
1068. Religion insidiously enters the church through repetition.
1069. Repetition is religion's close ally.
1070. As people we are inherently religious, for we enjoy feeling comfortable - even in our discomfort!

CRANWELL'S CARTOON
13 So Daniel was brought before the king, and the king said to him,
“Are you Daniel, one of the exiles my father the king brought from
Judah? 14 I have heard that the spirit of the gods is in you and
that you have insight, intelligence and outstanding wisdom. 15 The
wise men and enchanters were brought before me to read this writing
and tell me what it means, but they could not explain it. 16 Now I
have heard that you are able to give interpretations and to solve
difficult problems. If you can read this writing and tell me what
it means, you will be clothed in purple and have a gold chain placed
around your neck, and you will be made the third highest ruler in the
kingdom.†17 Then Daniel answered the king, “You may keep your gifts
for yourself and give your rewards to someone else. Nevertheless, I
will read the writing for the king and tell him what it means. 18 “O
king, the Most High God gave your father Nebuchadnezzar sovereignty
and greatness and glory and splendor. 19 Because of the high position
he gave him, all the peoples and nations and men of every language
dreaded and feared him. Those the king wanted to put to death, he put
to death; those he wanted to spare, he spared; those he wanted to
promote, he promoted; and those he wanted to humble, he humbled. 20
But when his heart became arrogant and hardened with pride, he was
deposed from his royal throne and stripped of his glory. 21 He was
driven away from people and given the mind of an animal; he lived
with the wild donkeys and ate grass like cattle; and his body was
drenched with the dew of heaven, until he acknowledged that the Most
High God is sovereign over the kingdoms of men and sets over them
anyone he wishes. 22 “But you his son, O Belshazzar, have not humbled
yourself, though you knew all this. 23 Instead, you have set yourself
up against the Lord of heaven. You had the goblets from his temple
brought to you, and you and your nobles, your wives and your concubines drank wine from them. You praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or understand. But you did not honor the God who holds in his hand your life and all your ways. 24 Therefore he sent the hand that wrote the inscription. 25 “This is the inscription that was written:
MENE, MENE, TEKEL, PARSIN
26 “This is what these words mean:
Mene: God has numbered the days of your reign and brought it to an end. 27 Tekel: You have been weighed on the scales and found wanting. 28 Peres: Your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians.†29 Then at Belshazzar’s command, Daniel was clothed in purple, a gold chain was placed around his neck, and he was proclaimed the third highest ruler in the kingdom. LAUGHING AT OURSELVES
***Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves for they shall never cease to be amused****** "Those who can't laugh at themselves leave the job to others." ***
118. BC!
Adam and Eve lived thousands of years BC - Before Clothing.
117. Good Parentage
A young woman teacher with obvious liberal tendencies explains to her class of small children that she is an atheist. She asks her class if they are atheists too. Not
really knowing what atheism is but wanting to be like their teacher, their hands explode into the air like fleshy fireworks.
There is, however, one exception. A beautiful girl named Lucy has not gone along with the crowd. The teacher asks her why she has decided to be different.
"Because I'm not an atheist."
Then, asks the teacher, "What are you?"
"I'm a Christian."
The teacher is a little perturbed now, her face slightly red. She asks Lucy why she is a Christian.
"Well, I was brought up knowing and loving Jesus. My mum is a Christian, and my dad is a Christian, so I am a Christian."
The teacher angrily says, "That's no reason."
"What if your mom was a moron, and your dad was a moron. What would you be then?"
She paused, smiled and said, "Then, I'd be an atheist."
116. Ahhh -- Excuse me
The President was visiting Europe, and in Spain he noticed an old man in a long flowing white robe with a long white beard and long white hair. The man had a staff in one hand and some stone tablets under the other arm. Excited, G.W. approached the man and enquired,
"Aren't you Moses." The man ignored G.W. and stared at the ceiling.
President Bush positioned himself more directly in the man's view and asked gain, "Aren't you Moses?" The man continued to look up at the ceiling.
Exasperated, G.W. reached out, tugged at the man's sleeve, and asked again, "Excuse me, sir. But aren't you Moses?" The man finally responded in an irritated voice, "Yes, I am."
G.W. asked him why he was acting so rude and Moses responded, "Purely self-defence, I assure you. The last time I spoke to a Bush I had to wander around in the desert for forty years!"

LAST WEEKS QUESTION: When was the first animal cloned?ANSWER: Surprisingly, as far back as 1952, when scientists successfully
cloned tadpoles. They were drawing on research that went back to 1938,
when a German scientist developed a theory on how to clone vertebrates
by nuclear transfer. (But did they develop into frogs?)

BIBLE TRIVIA (Weights and Measures)
TO MEASURE LENGTH IN THE OLD TESTAMENTThe 'span' was the distance between the tips of the thumb and the little finger when the hand is outstretched. Approximately half a cubit. The 'palm' was round a sixth of a cubit and measured as the breadth of the hand at the base of the fingers. The 'finger' measurement was a quarter of a palm and the smallest subdivision of the cubit.

Brazil's March for Jesus Draws 1.5 Million Evangelicals
by Ethan Cole, The Christian PostSAN PAULO, BRAZIL - In its 17th year, the event brings together hundreds of evangelical churches in a country that is home to the world’s largest Roman Catholic population.
The march is held each year on the same day the Catholic Church celebrates the Corpus Christi holiday, which is not observed by evangelical Protestants but is a national holiday in Brazil.
Participants marched 2.5 miles in San Paulo and heard music from Christian bands and messages from preachers and local celebrities.
Evangelical Protestants have grown from nine percent in 1990 to 15 percent, according to the 2000 census. Meanwhile, the Catholic population has decreased from 84 percent in 1990 to 74 percent in the same period.

WAXING LYRICAL
Faith is to be a living, growing, dymnamic feature of our walk with our God.FAITH
I wonder why, when 'faith' is an issue,
So often then, we reach for a tissue,
To mop up the tears of doubt you see,
That assail us now, both you and me.
For on the one hand, we trust God with our all,
On the other, human doubt, our faith does stall!
"Will He or wont He?" we are wont to think,
Our faith, once so strong, begins to sink.
"You've always proved faithful to me, my Lord,"
While former blessings, I wish I could hoard!
Each new level requiring greater trust in Him,
Memories of past successes faded, now so dim.
If today's faith was the same as in the past,
Our belief in Him, just simply wouldn't last.
It would just be our own strength that had won,
Not that of our Lord, Jesus Christ the Son.
Now, today's challenge is to break new ground,
Then our faith in Him, it will be truly found.
Oh Lord, please help me in my unbelief!
You've come through again - what a relief!
Put simply, it's the way God's faith works,
Though to our human spirit, it still irks!
So if now, we are to mature and grow,
Trusting Him's, the only way to go!

A DAVID MUSING
This week we celebrated Guy Fawkes Day, here in New Zealand. The entry out of Wikipedia explains:
Guy Fawkes (13 April 1570 – 31 January 1606), also known as Guido Fawkes, the name he adopted while fighting for the Spanish in the Low Countries,[1][2] belonged to a group of Roman Catholic restorationists from England who planned the Gunpowder Plot of 1605.[3] Their aim was to displace Protestant rule by blowing up the Houses of Parliament while King James I and the entire Protestant, and even most of the Catholic, aristocracy and nobility were inside. The conspirators saw this as a necessary reaction to the systematic discrimination against English Catholics.[4]
The Gunpowder Plot was led by Robert Catesby, but Fawkes was put in charge of its execution. He was arrested a few hours before the planned explosion, during a search of the cellars underneath Parliament in the early hours of 5 November prompted by the receipt of an anonymous warning letter.
Guy Fawkes Night (or "bonfire night"), held on 5 November in the United Kingdom and some parts of the Commonwealth, is a commemoration of the plot, during which an effigy of Fawkes is burned, often accompanied by a fireworks display. The word "guy", meaning "man" or "person", is derived from his name.
When I was a boy (along with Adam!) it was a big celebration. Unfortunately, some people got hurt by the fireworks and today's event in our cotton-wooled, PC society is only a shadow of what it once was.
Too me, this also seems true of much of the church today. We are scared to tell the full truth in case it offends. And like Guy Fawkes Day, it is gradually falling off the ladder of relevance in our society.
It's time for a 'mighty cannon' to 'sky rocket' the church to where God wants it to be!
Until next week.......
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD.
His servant and yours
David Tait
