AND THE GREATEST OF THESE IS - LOVE

What is at the heart of the end time, kingdom church?

The answer is actually very simple in principle, if not so simple to activate! For the answer is found in one word - LOVE.

But what is love?

FIRSTLY, LOVE IS THE CHARACTER OF GOD continued

Without God's love we would not be able to enter into a relationship with Him. In, probably, the best known and 'loved' verse in the Bible.....

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)

.....God's ultimate character of love is displayed. This confirmed in.....

but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)

....as well as many other places, expressed and implied, in both Testaments. Check it out in your concordance or through 'Mr Google'!

2. WE ARE COMMANDED TO LOVE GOD IN RETURN

There are many verses that reflect this. Here are a few, from both the old and the new covenants. From the Old Testament.....

Know therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations, (Deuteronomy 7:9)

I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me. (Proverbs 8:17)

.....and the New.

Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. (1 John 4:8)

God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him. (1 John 4:16b)

As we love God, so we develop the fruit of the Spirit.....

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

This is all pretty standard Christian teaching, although often not observed in our behavior. Therein lies crux of the matter!

3. THE ATTITUDE OF THE DENOMINATIONAL CHURCH

The reality is, the current denominational church system is based upon theology. Differences between churches are found in their belief systems. New denominations arise through either a new revelation from God or, more often, from differences in what people believe to be the truth. Unfortunately there are 30,000+ different versions of what is right!

Christianity then, is defined by what people believe rather than what they do. This is the primary reason why it is so difficult to attract Jews and Middle Eastern people in general, to the church, for their value system for their value system is based upon actions rather than words.

If then we are to have a unified church, the bride of Christ for whom Jesus is to return.....

6 Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting: “Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns. 7 Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready. 8 Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear.” (Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of God’s holy people.)

.....it is clear that the church has to be built upon righteous acts, rather than 'right theology'!

This is the challenge for the church today.

FROM THE WORD

THE WORDS OF JESUS

May we hear what the Lord is saying to us.

Jesus Raises the Widow of Nain’s Son (Luke 7:11-17)
When the boy’s body was being taken outside of the town.

“Don’t cry,”
“Young man, I tell you, get up.”

Jesus Commends John the Baptist (Matthew 11:1-19, Luke 7:18-35)
When approached by John’s disciples asking Jesus if He truly was ‘the one who was to come’.

“Go and tell John what you’ve seen and heard. The blind see, the lame walk, the lepers cured, the deaf hear, the dead raised back to life, the poor are told the good news. How good it is for those who are not offended because of me!”
“About John: what did you expect to see when you went out to meet him in the desert? Some reed blown about by the wind? Did you come looking for a man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who have stylish clothes and live in luxury are found in palaces. Were you looking for a prophet? Yes he is, and I’m telling you, he’s much more than a prophet. “It was written about him in Scripture: ‘Look, I’m sending my messenger to go before you to prepare your way.’ “I tell you, no one born of women is greater than John, but even the most unimportant person in God’s kingdom is greater than he is!”

But the Pharisees disagreed.

“What shall I compare these people to?” “What are they like? “They’re like children sitting in the market who tell one other, ‘We played the flute for you but you didn’t dance; we sang sad songs but you didn’t cry.’ When John the Baptist came he didn’t eat bread or drink wine, but you say he’s demon-possessed. Now the Son of man is here, and eats and drinks with people, but you say, ‘Look, he spends his time eating too much food and drinking too much wine. Plus he’s a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ However, God’s wise ways are proved right by all who follow him!”

Jesus Rebukes 3 Cities (Matthew 11:20-30)
Jesus denounced the people of the towns where most of His miracles were performed for not repenting.

“Shame on you, Korazin; shame on you, Bethsaida! If the miracles had been performed in Tyre and Sidon which happened among you, they would have repented in sackcloth and ashes long ago. But I tell you that on the Day of Judgment it will be better for Tyre and Sidon than it will for you! And what about you, Capernaum? Will you be exalted to heaven? No, you’ll go down to Hades! If the miracles had been performed in Sodom which happened among you, Sodom would still be here today. But I tell you that on the Day of Judgment it will be better for Sodom than it will for you!”

DAVID'S DOODLINGS

TRUTH AND KNOWLEDGE

444. If I knew everything in the world, I would be most confused!

445. The pursuit of knowledge is excellent, the pursuit of truth, unsurpassable.

446. The more I learn, the less I know, so to my God I’d rather go.

447. Truth is like tightening a nut. There is only a small difference between maximum effectiveness and stripping the thread.

448. Human knowledge corrupts. Absolute knowledge corrupts absolutely.

449. Knowledge seeks truth but only God can reveal the truth.

450. Truth provides the foundation upon which the house of knowledge should be built.

451. Knowledge is relative, truth absolute. Problems arise when we confuse the two.

452. If I have all knowledge in the world but have not the truth, I am as nothing.

LAUGHING AT OURSELVES

***Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves for they shall never cease to be amused***

*** Those who can't laugh at themselves leave the job to others. ***

173. OOPS!
A young preacher was visiting a man in an oxygen tent in a hospital room. Standing by the bed he asked the elderly gentleman how he was feeling, but the patient merely grunted. Undeterred, the minister opened his Bible and began to read.

Soon he noticed a change come over the man. His eyes started bulging and his face began to turn red. Sensing the end was near, the pastor asked if he had any message, or last words. The man nodded weakly, motioning to something beside the bed. Spotting a table, the sympathetic pastor picked up a pad and pencil and passed it to the man under the oxygen tent. The man wrote something, stuffed it in the preacher's hand, then died.
Shaken, the preacher stepped out of the room. Remembering the note, and realizing the importance of the man's last words, he uncrumpled the paper and read the hastily scrawled words: "You're standing on my oxygen line."

172. SYMPATHY
A minister joined a new acquaintance on the golf course, hoping to bring the subject around to church. The course adjoined a cemetery, and as they neared the next hole they observed a funeral procession coming down the road. As it passed their location the man stopped, solemnly removed his hat, and bowed his head till it passed. The minister, touched by his reverence, remarked, “I must say, friend. That was a most heart-warming display of sympathy. I’m touched by your show of respect.”

The golfer replaced his cap. “It’s the least I could do,” he said as he resumed rolling his golf bag to the green. “After all, she was my wife for 18 years.”

171. GEE,THANKS!
While working on a message the pastor heard a knock at his office door. "Come in," he invited.

A contrite-looking man in threadbare clothes came in, pulling a large pig on a rope.. "Can I talk to you for a minute?" asked the man with his hat in his hand. Wordlessly, the pastor indicated the chair and the man sat down in it gingerly. The pig proceeded to sniff around the office. With one eye on the animal and one on the man, the pastor folded his hands on his desk and leaned forward, curious to hear the fellow's story. "What can I do for you?"

"My family is hungry," started the man. "So I stole this pig. But I feel that I have sinned. Would you please take it?"

"Certainly not," said the minister.

"Then what should I do with it?" asked the man.

"Give it back to the man you stole it from, of course!" the pastor explained.

"I offered it to him, but he refused to take it. Now what should I do?"

"In that case," the minister said, "It would be all right for you to keep it and feed your family."

That seemed to settle things as far as the man was concerned. "Thank you for your help, sir." With a lighter step, he walked out of the office, leading the pig on the rope behind him.

Later that afternoon when the minister returned home, he said to his wife as he walked in, "Have I got a story to tell you."

"I have something to tell you first," she exclaimed. "Someone has stolen your prize pig!"

FACTS FOR FUN

LAST WEEKS QUESTION: In terms of chemical composition, what substance does human blood most closely resemble?

ANSWER: The substance chemically closest to blood is seawater. In fact, the saline solution which is used in intravenous injections, ‘normal saline’, is 0.9% salt to water, the same salinity as seawater. It's also the salinity of amniotic fluid, the liquid that surrounded all of us in utero, before we were born. Of course, seawater contains lots of other ‘trace minerals’, which are mostly also present in blood. Yes, human plasma closely resembles seawater. (So sailors really do have the blood of the sea coursing through their veins?)

THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: Which Roman emperor succumbed to smallpox?

Answer Next Week.

SOME FUN FACTS

564. ‘HARD AS’
Human teeth are almost as hard as rocks! (But both have a bad habit of breaking with age.)

565. THE 'TERMITERITY' OF IT!
The world's termites outweigh the world's humans 10 to 1. (Fortunately they are considerably smaller than we, so we don’t often notice.)

566. STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN?
There are more than 10 million bricks in the Empire State Building. (Beats the Tower Of Babel, any day!)

'TIL DEATH DO US PART

73. ATTRACTION TO LIGHT!

In the back woods of Arkansas, Mr. Stewart's wife went into labor in the middle of the night, and the doctor was called out to assist in the delivery.

To keep the nervous father-to-be busy, the doctor handed him a lantern and said, "Here, you hold this high so I can see what I'm doing." Soon, a wee baby boy was brought into the world. "Whoa there Scotty!" said the doctor. "Don't be in a rush to put the lantern down...I think there's yet another wee one to come."

Sure enough, within minutes he had delivered another little baby.

"No, no, don't be in a great hurry to be putting down that lantern, young man...It seems there's yet another one besides!" cried the doctor.

The new father scratched his head in bewilderment, and asked the doctor. "Do ye think it's the light that's attractin' them?"

74. LAST REQUESTS?
Mary Clancy goes up to Father O'Grady after his Sunday morning service, and she's in tears. He says, "So what's bothering you, dear?"

She says, "Oh, Father, I've got terrible news. My husband passed away last night."

The priest says, "Oh, Mary, that's terrible. Tell me, Mary, did he have any last requests?"

She says, "That he did, Father..."

The priest says, "What did he ask, Mary?"

She says, "He said, 'Please, Mary, put down that gun..."

75. DON'T WORRY MOM
My six-year-old grandson called his mother from his friend Charlie's house and confessed he had broken a lamp when he threw a football in their living room.

"But, Mom," he said, brightening, "you don't have to worry about buying another one. Charlie's mom said it was irreplaceable."

More and more Jews finding Jesus in Israel

By Michael Ashcraft and Mark Ellis

The First Wave of Jews coming to Jesus hit in the 1970s in America. The Second Wave were Russian Jews in the 1990s. And now – in what some observers call a Third Wave – Jews in Israel are coming to faith in increasing numbers.

“I have never seen the breakthrough like we’re seeing now,” said Tuvya Zaretsky, chairman of the board for the Israel branch of Jews for Jesus. “We’re seeing a steady stream of Israelis who are coming to Jesus from all walks of life, though usually among the young. There seems to be a greater openness to spiritual input. We’re thinking it’s a Third Wave of in-gathering.”

In the 1990s, there were about 3,000 Messianic Jews in Israel; today there are as many as 20,000 (still less than 1% of the population), said Simon Stout, executive assistant of Jews for Jesus in Tel Aviv. Also, one source estimates 150 congregations of like-minded believers in Israel. Of Israel’s 84 cities and towns, 81 have at least one messianic Bible study.

“It’s been a very unusual turning in Israel,” said Zaretsky, who’s been traveling to Israel since 1971. “The community of believers there has solidified. They’ve found their voice. There’s less antagonism. The situation is changing.”

When Jews for Jesus launched its Israel branch in 2000, its banners were torn down and workers beaten up by ultra-orthodox Jews who associated Christianity with the Holocaust. Now, Jews for Jesus has a staff of 31 and the world political situation has sparked greater interest in Jesus, Zaretsky said.

After World War II’s Holocaust killed 6 million Jews, Israel was created by decree of the United Nations as a safe place for Jews. But now many Israelis feel more imperiled than ever. Iran, which is feared to be close to producing nuclear weapons, is constantly threatening Israel’s destruction. On the streets of Israel, terrorism is a constant.

With half the country’s population, Tel Aviv is where Jews for Jesus runs a 3-story discipleship center which hosts coffee house activities, art shows and other events to bring in neighbors in the trendy Florentine neighborhood. A brief presentation of the gospel is always given; literature is on hand, and messianic Jews are present for anyone curious.

In 2008, research showed that most Israelis had very little concept of who Yeshua was. They knew him by the name Yeshu, a corruption of his name imposed by the rabbis to expunge Christianity from Judaism. While Yeshua is related to Yeshuah, which means “salvation,” Yeshu is an acrostic that stands for “Cursed be his name and his memory.”

So Jews for Jesus took to the streets with banners to educate Israelis about Yeshua. The placards read: “Yeshu = Yeshua = Yeshuah” and included the phone number of the Jews for Jesus office. They took out ads in the newspaper with this motto and placed it on billboards and buses. The ultra-orthodox tore the signs down. Now workers hold up banners along streets and highways at different times.

Jews for Jesus have also staged yearly region-wide campaigns, called “Israel, Behold Your God,” that included months of concentrated evangelism.

Ben, an 18-year-old high school student from northern Israel, (not his real name) contacted Jews for Jesus personnel through its website two months ago. Igal, a missionary intern, talked to Ben via Skype and found out that his mother was a believer. Igal shared with him his personal testimony about how God set him free from drugs and brought him peace, encouraging Ben to believe that Yeshua would do the same for him, Stout said.

Ben agreed to study more about Yeshua and actually stated that he wanted to give Yeshua a chance to work in his life. Igal prayed daily for Ben and talked to him once a week. Just this month, Ben prayed with Igal to accept Yeshua as his Messiah, Stout said.

“People are receiving Christ at a fairly constant rate,” Stout said. “They’re coming in ones or twos each month. It’s not a speedy process. There are cultural barriers for Jews to accept Jesus Christ.”

Stout was himself a non-believing, reformed Jew from Indianapolis who visited Israel on a government-subsidized tour in 2001. First he saw the horrors of concentration camps in Poland, where Jews were imprisoned and killed wholesale as part of Hitler’s anti-Semitism during World War 2.

Leaving behind the dreary memorials and the cold weather, Stout landed in Israel when it was warm and lovely. “The first time I saw Jerusalem, there was a rainbow over part of the city,” he said. “There was something inside me that told me that there was a reason for me to be in Israel. I had this feeling that there was a God and He had a purpose for Israel.

“I felt God must be real because only He could have taken the horrors of World War II and birth a nation and bring us back after 2,000 years,” he said. But it wasn’t until years later that Stout accepted Jesus when he came to Israel to study for a master’s in education.

A friend from a messianic congregation invited him to visit. In Indianapolis, his only exposure to Christianity were school kids telling him he would burn in Hell for being a Jew; he also saw Jewish houses get egged, he said. Despite the bad first impression with Christianity, he wasn’t completely closed to hearing about Jesus.

For two months, he attended Bible studies and fellowship groups. Then one night he had a dream about a flood in New York and a flood in China. When he attended a Bible study about prophetic dreams, he hoped to find an interpretation. Instead the lady conference speaker prophesied over him: “God hears your prayers. Yeshua is real, and He has great plans for you.”

Stout broke down crying. He accepted Yeshua and was baptized in the Mediterranean Sea. He decided to remain in Israel, where he has married and had two children. Originally, he taught English literature but two years ago started working with Jews for Jesus.

Another ministry of Jews for Jesus is its “Massah” outreach in India. Surprisingly, the Himalayas are a favorite hiking mecca for Israelis after they complete their mandatory military service at about age 20. Secular Jews, in particular, use the getaway to take drugs and forget the stressful experience of constant war threat in Israel, Zaretsky said.

For 5-6 weeks during the summer, there are so may Israelis in the Himalayas that entire restaurants and coffee houses are filled with Jews. There are even Hebrew-speaking waiters and Hebrew menus to cater to the sub-culture diaspora.

There’s something about the mystique of India, with its varied spirituality, that seems to open Jewish youth to talk about alternatives. It’s the perfect spot to strike up a conversation about Yeshua. So yearly, the Israeli branch of Jews for Jesus forms a team that travels to India for ministry.

“India is a relevant place to talk about spirituality and belief,” said one Messianic Jewish believer on a YouTube video about Massah. Another recounted about sharing the gospel with a Jew who, intrigued, told her: “This whole talk we’ve had would not have happened if we were in Israel.”

The parents of Shmuel Salway immigrated with his family from India and now the 42-year-old is associate pastor of the Adonai Roi congregation, which has functioned in Tel Aviv for 19 years. It’s now a church of 100 members.

“We just had five baptisms last month,” Salway said. “The Jews are coming back to the land, and they’re coming to know the Messiah. We’re living in prophetic times. I believe Yeshua will come back in our lifetime. He’ll come back when many more Jews come to Messiah and cry out ‘Baruch Haba B’Shem Adonai‘ – Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.”

WAXING LYRICAL

Something different this week. The first verse of a poem given to me by an attendee at our retreat last weekend, after I mentioned that no-one has a ministry of their own, only God's ministry working through us. There are 2, as yet, unwritten, to come, as is the title. The writer prefers to remain anonymous as she (50% of us deleted!) says it belongs to the Lord.

My heart be still

And listen to the Father’s will.

Be merged today in full surrender

To the vine, until you’re tender

Then allow His sap to flow

That by His love His fruit will grow

No, not for you will this fruit nurture

But cast abroad, it will secure another’s future.

A DAVID MUSING

REPORT FOR THE GFM Napier Equipping Station Holy Spirit weekend (By one of the attendees)

“HEARING & OBEYING GOD’S VOICE”

With Rodney Francis and David Tait.

28 enthusiastic campers and 6 day people met together at Stoney Creek Ranch in Hastings, in lovely sunny Hawke’s Bay weather, over the weekend of 24th April to Sunday 26th April.
We were treated with excellent teaching from Rodney concerning ‘Hearing the Voice of God’ and obeying, Friday/Saturday. Sunday he taught and encouraged us in our walk with God with truths about the prophetic and its particular importance in the times we are living in and coming into. His personal testimonies brought his teachings alive.
David Tait showed us what the ‘God’s Overcoming End Time Church’ will look like. This included a physical and spiritual walk through David’s Tabernacle, living the experiences of the Tabernacle and on another occasion a Jewish wedding.
Words from God were given and received by those attending and many lives were changed because of them.
We discovered that biblical numbers were pretty important so here are 7 p’s describing the weekend: Participation, Puns, Passion, Priceless, Peculiar, Praise(and worship).
Here are some of the testimonies from those who attended the weekend......

I came here, already sensing I was on a journey, nothing else. This weekend has been a confirmation of this. A journey to be shared with my husband. I have been anointed with the Holy Spirit and prayed over by lovely people sharing God’s words for me and my husband. I feel truly blessed and loved. Janet

I have enjoyed the fellowship, making new friendships especially with my ‘Jesus friend. I came with an open mind and heart and leave with peace in my heart. Jan

I thank the Lord for releasing my wife into a deeper understanding of Jesus moving in God’s Spirit. Myself being given words of encouragement and breaking down strongholds over people’s lives. Shane

I found this weekend a time of healing, restoration, encouraging, up lifting and Spirit led.
The Prophetic was encouraging and applicable to the person receiving it.
A time of new friendships and connections and having the unity of the Spirit. Des and Louise

I have been moved about this camp and it has inspired me to get close to God and go forward to God. Sharon.

All this was encouched in an atmosphere of wonderful Spirit lead worship, fun, and love.
All honour and thanks to our Lord and his faithful workers who graced this weekend.

Dearhn Whale

So until next week.....

MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD
