A REVELATION TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE!

THE TRUE ARMOUR OF GOD - Part 7

MEANING FOR OUR LIFE TODAY continued

Last week, we saw that the TRUE ARMOUR OF GOD is previewed in the Old Testament, through Isaiah.....

I delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. (Isaiah 62:10)

Consisting of 4 elements we have already considered.....

1. SALVATION

2. RIGHTEOUSNESS

3. THE PRIESTHOOD

Today we will look at the final element making up the TRUE ARMOUR OF GOD, before concluding next week.

4. THE BRIDE The ultimate means in protecting ourselves against satan's wiles is to live a holy life, to become a part of the bride for whom Jesus is returning.....

6 Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting: ‘Hallelujah! 6 Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting:

‘Hallelujah!
For our Lord God Almighty reigns.
7 Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory!
For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready.
8 Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear.’
(Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of God’s holy people.) (Revelation 19:6-8)>/i>

Righteousness lead to holiness.....

I am using an example from everyday life because of your human limitations. Just as you used to offer yourselves as slaves to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer yourselves as slaves to righteousness leading to holiness. (Romans 6:19)

The holiness of Jesus enabled him to resist both evil spirits and the devil.....

23 Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an impure spirit cried out, 24 ‘What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are – the Holy One of God!’ 25 ‘Be quiet!’ said Jesus sternly. ‘Come out of him!’ (Mark 1:23-5)

and.....

8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendour. 9 ‘All this I will give you,’ he said, ‘if you will bow down and worship me.’ 10 Jesus said to him, ‘Away from me, Satan! For it is written: “Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.”’ 11 Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him. (Matthew 4 8-10)

Zechariah prophesied what we were to attain through Jesus.....

to rescue us from the hand of our enemies, and to enable us to serve him without fear 75 in holiness and righteousness before him all our days. (Luke 1:74-5)

Righteous acts, (which we looked at 2 weeks ago) lead to holiness.....

I am using an example from everyday life because of your human limitations. Just as you used to offer yourselves as slaves to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer yourselves as slaves to righteousness leading to holiness. (Romans 6:19)

In fact.....

Warning and encouragement

Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. (Hebrews 12:14)

Holiness is a prerequisite of belonging to the bride, as we saw in Revelation 19:6-8 above, and confirmed.....

2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Look! God’s dwelling-place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. (Revelation 21:2-3)

and again....

The new Jerusalem, the bride of the Lamb

9 One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and said to me, ‘Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.’ 10 And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God. (Revelation 21:9:10)

And finally, at the end of the Bible, our invitation.....

16 ‘I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you[a] this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.’ 17 The Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come!’ And let the one who hears say, ‘Come!’ Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life. (Revelation 22:16-17)

The ultimate protective armour against satan is found through the submission of our lives in righteousness, leading to holiness, so becoming a part of the bride for whom Jesus is returning.

(Concluded next week.)

FROM THE WORD

THE WORDS OF JESUS

May we hear what the Lord is saying to us.

Jesus is Arrested (Matthew 26:48-56, Mark 14:44-52, Luke 22:47-54, John 18:4-12)
Judas betrays Jesus with a kiss.

“My friend, do what you came to do,”

Jesus answers the mob.

“Who are you looking for?”
“I am,”
“I already told you I am,” Jesus replied. “So if it’s me you’re looking for, let these others go.”

Peter severs Malchus’ ear.

“Put your sword away. Everyone who fights with a sword will die by the sword. Don’t you think I could ask my Father, and he’d immediately send more than twelve legions of angels? But then how could the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must be like this?”

To the mob.

“Have you come with swords and clubs to arrest me as if I was some kind of dangerous criminal? Every day I sat in the temple teaching and you didn’t arrest me then. But all this is happening to fulfill what the prophets wrote.”

Jesus heals the ear of Malchus.

“Stop! No more of this!”

DAVID'S DOODLINGS

HEAVENLY TRUTHS GOD HAS SHOWN ME

739. - 809. God has shown me that...

... to give in to Him is to grow up in Him.

... life is born out of death.

... life is not meant to be fair.

... we seek spiritual gifts while He desires spiritual fruit.

... submission builds character.

... character outscores performance every time.

... 'to be' is infinitely better than 'to do'.

... we cannot put Him into a box, no matter how big we make it.

... sin caused man and God's thought patterns to become diametrically opposed.

... He reveals himself to us when we least expect it.

LAUGHING AT OURSELVES

***Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves for they shall never cease to be amused***

*** Those who can't laugh at themselves leave the job to others. ***

342. THE GUEST
"There will be a meeting of the Board immediately after the service," announced the pastor. After the close of the service, the group gathered at the back of the auditorium for the announced meeting. But there was a stranger in their midst. He was a visitor who had never attended their church before. "My friend," asked the pastor, did you understand that this is a meeting of the Board?" "Yes," said the visitor, "and after that sermon, I'm about as bored as you can get!"

341. UNMERITED FAVOUR
A preacher phoned the city's newspaper. "Thank you very much," said he, "for the error you made when you announced my sermon topic for last Sunday. The topic I sent you was 'What Jesus Saw in A Publican.' You printed it as 'What Jesus Saw in a Republican' I had the biggest crowd of the year!"

340. A MINISTER LEARNS FROM A STUDENT
A minister was chatting with a University student about the doctoral paper he was preparing. Through reading and exacting studies with many patients, the student was prepared to report that the type of conversation that went on in the operating room had a definite impact on the recovery rate of surgical patients.

The minister was especially interested in the finding that even though a patient under anaesthesia was totally "out of it", in a comatose like condition, positive conversation by doctors and other attendants had a very beneficial affect on the patient. As the pastor listened to this revelation, his face suddenly lit up, and he said, "At last I've found some hope for the people who attend the Sunday morning church service."

FACTS FOR FUN

LAST WEEKS QUESTION: Which American first lady carried a gun in her purse?

ANSWER: First Lady, Eleanor Roosevelt, was advised by the Secret Service to carry a pistol with her. The sombre advice followed a large number of letters threatening her life after her husband, Franklin D. Roosevelt, took office. (Some things don’t change!)

THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: If you cut an earthworm in half, will it grow into two new worms?

SOME FUN FACTS

397. KEEPING FIT?
The average housewife (househusband) walks 10 miles (16 km) a day around the house doing their chores. In addition, they walk nearly 4 miles and spend 25 hours a year making beds. (But over 100 times as long sleeping in their beds as making them.)

398. AD BLITZ
The average American sees or hears an amazing 560 advertisements a day. (How much money do they have to spend per advertisement seen?)

399. NOT SNOT
Blowing your nose in public is considered rude in Japan (and in many other countries). The handkerchief is use primarily for wiping the mouth or drying your hands when leaving a restroom. (Truly a ‘hand’kerchief, not a ‘nose’kerchief.)

LIFE'S A LAUGH

111. WHERE'S THE BABY?
For weeks a six-year old lad kept telling his first-grade teacher about the baby brother or sister that was expected at his house.

One day the mother allowed the boy to feel the movements of the unborn child. The six-year old was obviously impressed, but made no comment.

Furthermore, he stopped telling his teacher about the impending event. The teacher finally sat the boy on her lap and said, "Tommy, whatever has become of that baby
brother or sister you were expecting at home?"

Tommy burst into tears and confessed, "I think Mommy ate it!"

112. THE HELP
When my daughter was about four years old, she still had a hard time grasping the concept of marriage. But anyway, I got out our wedding album, thinking visual images would help, and explained the entire service to her. Once finished, I asked if she had any questions, and she replied, "Oh, I see. Is that when Mommy came to work for us?"

113. 100%
Little Debbie came running into the house after school one day, shouting, "Daddy! Daddy! I got a 100 in school today!"

"That's great, Sweetheart," said her daddy. "Come in the living room and tell me about it."
"Well," began the confession, "I got 50 in spelling, 30 in math, and 20 in science..."

114. UNERASER!
While preparing my Sunday School room on Saturday, I was aided by our youngest in the church, a delightful 2 1/2 year old little girl. She was busy writing on the chalkboard and then decided to erase it. She was using the wrong side of the eraser so it just wasn't working well. She turned to me, holding out the eraser, and said, "It needs new batteries."

115. AND YOU, SIR?
Two intrepid explorers met in the heart of the Brazilian jungle.

"I'm here," declared one, "to commune with nature in the raw, to contemplate the eternal verities and to widen my horizons. And you, sir?"

"I," sighed the second explorer, "came because my young daughter has begun violin lessons."

Egypt: For modern-day ‘Daniel,’ God closed the mouths of savage dogs meant to tear apart imprisoned Christian

June 29, 2016
Reverend-Majed-El-Shafie-By Michael Ashcraft

Like the lions in Daniel’s den, the ferocious attack dogs meant to torture Majed El Shafie in his Egyptian jail cell refused to do anything to him. They sat placidly, and one even licked his forehead – to the rage of the guards.

“These dogs are trained to listen to their masters,” El Shafie told Sid Roth. “But there is no higher Master than the Lord Jesus Christ.”

How did El Shafie, a remarkable law student, wind up on the wrong side of law? First, he converted to Christianity from Islam, a big no-no in Egypt, which defines itself as officially Muslim. Then he founded a pro-Christian legal aid organization with thousands of members. But the last straw was he wrote a book expounding his ideas.

On August 15, 1998, the government came after him. “At 1:30 in the morning, I heard a knock at my door.” El Shafie said. “Five officers came and broke the door. They took me to the police station behind the Parliament. They told me, ‘We know who you are. We know about your book. One thing we don’t know is who is rest of your group.”

Since El Shafie refused to name his associates, the police resorted to torture. They escorted him to Abu Zaabel prison in Cairo, known in the Middle East as “Hell on Earth,” where he endured seven days before nearly dying, El Shafie said. He recovered slowly in a hospital.

El Shafie was born into an influential family in Cairo of lawyers and Supreme Court justices. But he learned of the injustices of Egyptian law in his first year at law school, when there were up to 7,000 prisoners languishing in Egyptians jails whose only crime was being a Christian.

“From my knowledge, if there is persecution, it means the enemy is trying to hide something.”

His friend very discreetly dodged the question and instead offered him a different book, one “that answers every question he could have.” In the pages of the Bible he discovered a justice, love and forgiveness he had never known before.

Providentially, he first opened the Scripture to John 8, the story of the woman caught in adultery. “Judge her according to the law of Moses!” the Pharisees cried out to Jesus.

“Whoever of you is without sin, cast the first stone,” Jesus replied.

“The only one who could cast the first stone was the Lord Jesus because He was the only one who had no sin,” he observed. “But He didn’t. He told the lady, ‘Go and sin no more. I forgive you.’ This was my first time to see true forgiveness.”

Shafie embarked on a year-long study comparing the Bible with the Koran. When he finished he approached his Christian friend and said: “Now I know what Christianity is about. It’s not a religion. It’s not about going to church on Sunday. Christianity is a relationship with God. I accept the Lord and I want to receive Jesus.”

But converting to Christ is no small matter in Egypt. He would be excluded from professional positions, lose his standing in the community, endanger his life and face severe rejection from his family.

“None of that equal anything if you know that your soul in the end will end up in Hell,” Shafie said.

Using his knowledge in law, Shafie launched a non-profit organization to advocate for religious freedom and aid Christians in jail. It grew in two years to 24,000 members. He wrote a book expounding his beliefs and was arrested on Aug. 15, 1998.

By El Shafie’s account, the Egyptian torture machine works through various steps. First they change the prisoner’s name so family members can’t locate them and so international human rights organizations can’t verify the family’s accusation.

“The officers who are torturing you are always wearing masks. You cannot see their faces. They always call each other by numbers, not by names.”

As they try to break a prisoner down, they increase the torture. From one day to the next, they inform the prisoner of the next day’s tortures, thus inflicting mental anxiety all night long before carrying it out, El Shafie said.

On Day #1, his hair was shaved and his head was put alternately in freezing cold and boiling hot water for a minute each. “After that, they took me to my cell, and the told me, ‘You tell us the name of your friends.’”

He responded: “I haven’t taken a shower for a long time, so I enjoyed the cold and hot water. The more that you smile, the more you show no fear, the more you show that they have no control.”

On Day #2, they hung El Shafie upside down, burned his body with cigarettes and slashed him with knives.

“The only thing I can remember from Day #2 is the taste and the smell of my blood,” he said. “They took me back to my cell.”

Day #3 was the three snarling dogs loosed into his dark cell. But “the three dogs were sitting around me. None of them attacked.”

Since the first set of dogs didn’t bite his flesh, the guards brought in another set of dogs, which also sat placidly.

“The guards were talking about it as a miracle,” El Shafie said.

On Day #4, guard 27, a huge officer, offered him anything he could want – a big house, money, women – if he would just inform on his associates. El Shafie “agreed” but said he first needed some shish kabobs because he hadn’t eaten in three days.

After licking his fingers, El Shafie told the hulking guard: “I can’t remember the names, but I’ll tell you the name of our leader, and if you can catch him, he can tell you exactly the names of all the members.

“The name of our leader is Jesus Christ,” he said. “If you can catch Him, catch Him.”

The guard slapped him, sending him against the wall. El Shafie was led to a dark room and tied hands, arms, feet, legs and neck to a wooden cross. He hung there for 2-and-a-half days. Then they cut his left shoulder and poured lemon and salt on the wound.

“He thought he broke my spirit, but he was wrong,” El Shafie said.

Nearly dead from extreme dehydration, El Shafie was taken to a hospital. Miraculously, Jesus gave him water, he said. After a week, he recovered.

Eventually he was tried and sentenced to death. But with the help of friends, he managed an audacious escape. He stole a jet ski on the Sinai Peninsula and rode it out of Egypt to Israel.

Through the help of international organizations, he was granted political asylum in Canada in 2002. He became a Canadian citizen in 2006.

El Shafie’s recent efforts to liberate the oppressed under Islam included traveling to ISIS-held territory to buy Yazidi sex slaves their freedom. For his humanitarian work, he was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012.

“Persecuted Christians are dying every day, but they are still smiling. They are in a very deep dark night, but they still have the candles of the living God,” El Shafie said. “Our enemies have a very strong army, have very strong weapons, but we have the Lord Almighty. They can kill the dreamer, but no one can kill the dream.”

WAXING LYRICAL

Life is a battle when we are walking in God's will for our life, for the enemy doesn't like it. But we must never forget that we have the victory - even though it sometimes may not seem like it!

WHEN BAD THINGS ARE GOOD

There is a man, I do know,
Who in God, desires to grow,
When something bad in life, does come along,
He's not now sad, for it makes him strong.

When satan tries to destroy his day,
He can now tell him to go away,
Has learned that, when doing God's will,
Satan will run you, through his mill.

He will accuse you of being blind,
And put evil thoughts in your mind,
A mighty battle now does take place,
Before you go on to win the race.

While satan's antics seem so real,
They're an illusion designed to steal
God's vision and purpose from our life,
Continually forcing us into strife.

The time to worry I have found,
Is when the devil is not around.
For when we proceed on our own way,
He takes time off to go and play.
He'll try his tricks on another one,
As our God, he tries to outgun.

So bad things are good, when we're in God's design.
Defeated satan - you have no power, us to decline!

A DAVID MUSING

Been a busy week. Now running late!

TIME FLIES

This week has gone in a flash,
Here and there did I dash.
Computer keys were smashed
When outside, rain lashed.

Beautiful rain after four months dry,
Very rarely a cloud in the sky.
Temperatures so warm for time of year,
Nice for us but costing farmers dear.

Now to get this PGIM finished,
Before the deadline has vanished.
So bye, bye, bye, bye, bye!
So to bed, it may then lie.

Until next week.......

MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD.

His servant and yours
