WHOSE CHURCH IS IT ANYWAY?

THE POST APOSTOLIC CHURCH

Again I acknowledge that much of the material that follows is drawn from the excellent publication by Eddie L. Hyatt, 2000 Years of Charismatic Christianity. For specific references to the writings quoted, please refer to that publication.

We now proceed to the 20th century which, as we all know, was noted for outpourings of the Holy Spirit. Surely all would now be transformed by the Spirit and the bride church produced. Of course, we now know the reality, where there has been greater splits and divisions than ever before. God weeps!

THE EARLY 1900'S

SPIRITUAL OUTBREAKS SPREAD AROUND THE WORLD

We have already looked at the 'Welsh Revival' that preceded the 'pentecostal revivals' in North America.

Following these, spiritual outbreaks took place, all round the globe. Overcoming weeks we will look at some of these. Throughout the world, believers considered they were seeing the latter rain outpouring of the Holy Spirit promised before the return of Christ.

The Day of the Lord

28 “And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. 29 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days. (Joel 2:28-9)

Last week we looked at South America, now we will continue with.....

EUROPE

A huge area so just a couple of examples.

NORWAY

T B Barratt (1862-1940), an Englishman, was a minister with the Methodist Episcopal Church in Norway. In 1905 he travelled to America to raise mission funds. Hearing about Azusa Street while in New York, he began to pray for Holy Spirit baptism. On 7 October 1906 he received it.

Returning to Norway, without funds, he began to preach the message of a 'new Pentecost'. The results were amazing.....

Folk from all denominations are rushing to the meetings. A number have received their Pentecost and are speaking in tongues. Some have seen Jesus in our meetings, and tongues of fire have been seen over my head by an infidel, convincing him of the power of God. People who have attended the meetings are taking the fire with them to the towns round about.

The news spread rapidly and many from other nations came including....

GREAT BRITAIN

A A BODDY (1854-1930) The Anglican rector in Sutherland, England, Boddy came seeking a greater dimension to his spiritual experience, and was convinced what he saw in Norway was genuine. Returning to England, revival broke out in his church first, then throughout the land. Thousands came to Sutherland, including SMITH WIGGLESWORTH (1859-1947) who received his Holy Spirit baptism when Mrs Boddy laid hands upon him. He then ministered on and in faith, healing and the gifts of the Holy Spirit around the world.

SWEDEN AND GERMANY

LEWI PETRUS and JONATHON PAUL from Sweden and Germany respectively, came to Oslo also and returned home to become leaders of the Pentecostal movements in their own countries.

CHINA

WILLIAM SIMPSON (1869-1961) a Christian and Missionary Alliance missionary in China, learned of the Holy Spirit revival in 1908. The first person he heard speak in tongues was his illiterate Chinese cook, while attending a convention on the Tibetan border. The man went on to interpret the message in both Mandarin and local dialects. Intriged, Simpson decided to devote 4 years of intense study and prayer about it all. On May 5, 1912, he was baptized in the Spirit and spoke in tongues.

This acceptance necessitated his resignation from the CMA, who stopped his support. In spite of financial hardship, his ministry continued and enlarged, accompanied by charismatic phenomena such as falling, visions and healings.

Returning to the US in 1915, he joined the new Assemblies of God (AOG) movement and became principal of the Bethel Bible Institute in Newark, New Jersey.

But the love of China, where he had spent 20 years of his life, reclaimed him in 1918.....

In a camp meeting the Spirit spoke just as directly to me as He had spoken long ago to Paul: It was in Chinese through a sister who knew not one word of Chinese, and told me to go back to Taochow on the Tibetan border. So I was sent forth by the Holy Spirit, sailing again on February 4, 1918. The Lord opened the way until we reached the border, and as soon as we arrived on that mission field the Spirit of God was poured out...We received letters inviting us here and there, and wherever we went the Spirit was poured out in Pentecostal power.

PENTECOSTAL PROLIFERATION

Spontaneous outpourings were taking place around the world. By 1908 it was present in 50 nations, while by 1914 the movement was truly worldwide.

So we can continue to say.....

THE TRUE FOLLOWERS OF JESUS ARE ONES WHO ARE OBEDIENT TO THE LEADING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN THEIR LIVES.

FROM THE WORD

THE WORDS OF JESUS continued

The Lord has asked me to compile a publication of the words Jesus spoke, as recorded in the New Testament in chronological order.

Of course, it is not a Bible substitute! I Hope you find it helpful too, in your walk with Jesus.

Parable of the Son (Luke 15:11.32)

“Once there was a man who had two sons,” “The younger one told his father, ‘Father, give me my inheritance now.’ So the man divided his property between them. A few days later the younger son packed up what he had and left for a distant country. Here he wasted all his money living a reckless life. “After he’d spent everything, the country was hit by a severe famine and he was starving. So he went and took a job with one of the farmers there who sent him to his fields to feed pigs. He was so hungry that he would
have eaten even the pig food, but no one gave him anything. When he came to his senses, he said to himself, ‘All of my father’s workers have more than enough to eat—why am I dying from hunger here? I’m going home to my father! I’ll tell him, “Father, I’ve sinned against heaven and against you. I’m no longer worthy to be called your son. Please treat me as one of your hired workers.”’ So he left and went home to his father.
“Even though he was still far away in the distance, his father saw him coming, and his heart went out to his son. The father ran to his son, hugging and kissing him. The son said to him, ‘Father, I’ve sinned against heaven and against you. I’m no longer worthy to be called your son.’
“But the father told his servants, ‘Quick—bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the calf we’ve been fattening and kill it. Let’s have a feast to celebrate because this is my son who was dead, but who has returned alive; he was lost but now he’s found.’ So they started celebrating.
“Now the older son was working out in the fields. As he walked towards the house, he heard music and dancing. So he called one of the servants and asked what was going on.
“Your brother is back,” he replied, “and your father has killed the fattened calf, because he’s come home safe and sound.”
“The brother became angry. He refused to go in. So his father came out to plead with him.
“He told his father, ‘Look, all these years I’ve served you, and never disobeyed you, but you never once gave me even a young goat so I could have a party with my friends. Now this son of yours comes back, having spent your money on prostitutes, and you kill the fattened calf for him!’
“‘Son,’ the father replied, ‘you are always here with me. Everything I have is yours. But we should be happy and celebrate! This is your brother who was dead, but who has returned alive; he was lost but now he’s found!’”

Parable of the Shrewd Manager (Luke 16:1-13)
Told to the disciples.

“There was once a rich man whose manager was accused of wasting what belonged to his master. So the rich man called in his manager, and asked him ‘What’s this I hear about you? Bring in your accounts, because you won’t be continuing as manager.’
The manager said to himself, ‘Now what will I do since my master going to fire me from my job? I’m not strong enough to dig, and I’m ashamed to beg. Oh, I know what I’m going to do so that when I’m sacked as manager people will make me welcome in their homes.’
“So he invited all those who were in debt to his master to come and see him. He asked the first one, ‘How much do you owe my master?’ The man replied, ‘A hundred units of oil.’ He said to him, ‘Sit down quickly.
Take your bill, and change it to fifty.’ Then he said to another, ‘How much do you owe?” The man replied, ‘A hundred units of wheat.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bill and change it to eighty.’
“The rich man commended his dishonest manager for his cunning idea. The children of this world are more cunning towards one another than are the children of light.
“I tell you, use the wealth of this world to make friends for yourselves so that when it’s gone, you’ll be welcomed into an eternal home. If you can be trusted with very little you can also be trusted with much; if you are dishonest with very little you will also be dishonest with much. So if you can’t be trusted when it comes to worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? And if you can’t be trusted with what belongs to someone else, who will trust you with what is yours? No servant can obey two masters. Either he will hate one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You can’t serve both God and Money.”

Heard by and scoffed at by the Pharisees.

“You appear pious to people, but God knows your hearts. What people value highly is detested by God.

DAVID'S DOODLINGS

REACH FOR THE SKY!

82. Sparrows can only twitter in the foothills while eagles soar to the mountaintops. Why then, are there so many more sparrows than eagles?

83. Nobody told the bumblebee that he cannot fly – so he does!

84. If the bumblebee can fly, so can you and I.

85. Only eagles fly high!

341. Unfortunately, there are many more people in life who would rather see you fly low than high. They want company!

342. The higher the mountain, the fewer who are prepared to climb, but the greater the rewards.

343. It's a lot less crowded on the mountaintops!

344. It's only the unsuccessful who have the secret of 'easy success'!

345. You can only get to the top of the mountain by starting from the bottom.

*** Those who can't laugh at themselves leave the job to others. ***

38. WHO'S FOR A WEDDING?
A minister was planning a wedding at the close of the Sunday morning service.

After the benediction he had planned to call the couple down to be married for a brief ceremony before the congregation.

For the life of him, he couldn't think of the names of those who were to be married.

"Will those wanting to get married please come to the front?" he requested.

Immediately, nine single ladies, three widows, four widowers, and six single men stepped to the front.

37. SAVED FOR SURE!
A friend of mine and her husband were on vacation. They visited an Episcopal Church on Sunday. The pews in this older church were in those little, box-like enclosures that have a "gate" entry to each one.

My friend likes to sit close to the front. So they entered a pew in the second row.

Shortly after settling into the pew, an usher came up to them, tapped lightly on the gate, and said, "This pew is saved."

Her husband replied, "So are WE!"

36. A GOOD QUESTION

FACTS FOR FUN

LAST WEEKS QUESTION: What exactly defines a planet? Which is the only planet to have an orbit that crosses that of another planet?

ANSWER: a.There is actually no scientific law defining a planet, but generally the planet must directly orbit a star, be small enough that it has not undergone internal nuclear fusion (i.e. is not a star or star like object), and must be big enough that its self-gravity gives the general shape of a sphere.

b. Pluto, usually the farthest planet from the sun in our solar system, crosses Neptune's orbit. Pluto is a tiny planet, smaller than Earth's moon, and its elliptical orbit takes 248 years and carries it as close as 2.8 billion miles from the sun and as far as 4.6 billion miles away from the sun. In 1979, Pluto crossed Neptune's orbit on its way closer to the sun, making Neptune the farthest planet for most of the 1980's. Pluto recrossed Neptune's orbit again in 1999 as it headed away from the sun and once again became the most distant planet. (Bye bye ‘til next time.)

GREAT GROANERS

111. HOSPITAL STAFFING
When a hospital runs out of maternity nurses they have a mid-wife crisis.

112. SOUP DU JOUR
When the waitress in a New York City restaurant brought him the soup du jour, the Englishman was a bit dismayed.

"Goodness gracious!" he said, "What is this?"

"Why, it's bean soup," she replied.

"I don't care what it's been," he replied. "What is it now?"

113. A NEW EXCUSE
A young family, feeling cramped in their small apartment, went shopping for a house. The parents looked at houses for a month before deciding on a two-story house in the country.
While driving to their new home, the mom was telling the children about the house; it was a big two-story house with lots of room. She told them about the big back yard with a swing-set; the playroom, big enough for all their toys; and each child would finally have a room of their own.

On their first night in their new home, the parents got the kids to bed later than usual, so they said they could only read one story.

The 4-year-old piped up, "No, this is a two story house!"

114.CHRISTMAS CHEER
My husband and I were returning home from our childbirth class at Manhattan's Beekman Hospital.

Noting my obvious pregnancy, the taxi driver, a Mr. Ho, proceeded to tell us about his wife's experience at the same hospital. She had been admitted one December 24 and the next day delivered triplets.

Visitors and staff were amused Christmas morning when they saw the newborns in the nursery and read the names on the three bassinets:

Ho, Ho, Ho.

Korean Doctor Tells How 21 Women at ‘High Risk for Down’s syndrome’ Gave Birth to ‘Normal Babies’ after receiving prayer

He was speaking at a unique Christian Medical Conference in Bulgaria

By Dan Wooding in Sofia, Bulgaria
Founder of ASSIST Ministries

SOFIA, BULGARIA (ANS) -- Dr. Gilbert Chae, Chairman of the World Christian Doctors Network (WCDN), delivered an extraordinary case study before some 240 Christian doctors and medical professionals from 38 countries at a unique conference in Sofia, Bulgaria, in which he said that some 21 women from his church, who were at “high risk” for Down’s syndrome, gave birth to “normal babies” after receiving prayer.

Dr. Chae, who is based at the Yonsei Jaeil Clinic, Seoul, South Korea, began his talk at the 11th Annual World Christian Doctors Network Conference, who met to “Glorify the Great Physician” and discuss “Medicine, Science and Spirituality,” began his presentation by explaining about Down’s syndrome.

“A normal human has the composition of human DNA that has 23 pairs,” he said. “In cases of Down’s syndrome, there is one more chromosome in the 21st. People with Down’s syndrome grow up slowly. Their nose is low. The middle of the forehead is wide, and the face is round, and their intelligence level is low.

“Those who have Down’s syndrome will live with it their whole life. If a pregnant woman finds out that her baby belongs to the Down’s syndrome high risk group, how would she feel? Even if she is fearless, she must be devastated.”

The Korean doctor, who attends the huge Manmin Central Church in Seoul, said that “so many people" in the church, received the diagnosis of Down’s syndrome high risk group, but "they gave birth to normal babies" after being prayed for by Rev. Jaerock Lee, the senior pastor, and founder of WCDN.

“A QUAD test is done in the fourth month of the pregnancy to check the innate abnormalities of the fetus, and it has the 70-80% of accuracy," he said. "Any result of a QUAD test that is below 270 falls into the Down’s syndrome high risk group. As numbers are lower, the risk is higher.

“To my regret, I could not get their medical records except for eight children, because their healing took place long time ago. The first child’s QUAD test result was 1:60 (one to sixty), belonging to very high risk group. The second child was 1:216. The third child was 1:100. The fourth child was 1:41, a very high risk group. The fifth child was 1:100. The sixth child was 1:69. The seventh child was 1:33. This is the highest so far and the eighth child was 1:267.

“Of course, there are other thorough exams like amniocentesis, amnioscopy, high resolution ultra sound, but they might have their own dangers and false negativity. They also cost very much. But many members of Manmin Central Church have firm faith that even Down’s syndrome can be healed by receiving prayer from Rev. Jaerock Lee, and they did not take further exams, but just received his prayer.

“All the couples that received prayer gave birth to a normal baby. God is almighty. He can change the abnormality of zillions of chromosomes in a moment. I have an interesting case supporting this kind of case.

“This couple had their QUAD test in the fourth month of the pregnancy. The result was 1:267, which was Down’s syndrome positive. They looked back at their life, and they repented of quarreling with each other and getting angry at others and breaking peace. Then they received prayer from Rev. Jaerock Lee. They did the same test again the next day, and the result was 1:1810. It turned negative just in one day.”

He added, “God is a good God who answers His children with good things only if they repent from their heart and ask with faith. I give all glory to God the Father who healed them, and I also give thanks to Rev. Jaerock Lee for praying for them.”

Each of these medical professionals, who gathered from May 9-10, 2014, at venue in the city, believes that “spiritual healing” is an answer to sickness in the 21st Century. They say that medicine alone cannot deal with some of today’s worst illnesses. But they also believe that miracles should be “documented” and various respected doctors presented actual case studies of miracles with the medical evidence to back them up, which was shown on a large screen.

TABERNEAGLES (In 2 parts. Part 1 this week.)
A summary of one man’s vision for God’s final ‘Tabernacle’ (Apostolic) church, preparing to become the ‘bride’ that Jesus is returning for. The vision is soundly based upon the scriptures (not included here – found in Book Too of ‘Eagles Fly High!’ – ‘The First & Last Word’) illuminating the pattern of the ‘Feasts of The Lord’ in both the Old and New Testaments.

Drawn from the trilogy ‘Eagles Fly High!’, this picture of the final church is presented through prophecy, allegory, poetry, and scripturally based vision.

Definitely a tasty morsel for the hungry in God. For those seeking to discover more about God’s plans for their lives and the church as a whole. Find out all about the ‘Taberneagle Army’ that God is starting to raise up at this critical time in our history.

WAXING LYRICAL

This tale was written over a 'period of waiting', while seeking premises for a store we wished to open for africa arise'. Go through all the emotions before giving it all to God!

WAITING (Part 1)

Wait for a time,
Then a little more,
Seeking a rhyme,
What's it all for!

I want it now!
Not next week!
You do know how!
To me now speak!

God, all is in your power,
Don't let my life go sour!
I already know what is the best!
No need to put me to the test!

Still nothing happens this week!
"Just wait for Me my son,
Rest in Me, let Me to you speak,
One day, all will be done."

Tuesday comes around,
A new deal awaits.
Found common ground,
With Christian mates.

Full of promise,
Full of hope.
Surely can't miss!
Nope! Nope! Nope!

Wednesday now,
Sign a deal!
We know how!
It's a steal!

Then get a call,
Deal does fall!
Lord I give up!
Hand You the cup.

Agony is inside,
It I can't hide.
What now can I do?
But give it to you.

It's Friday afternoon,
Speak to another man,
Another deal soon?
Yes God, you can!

Wait, wait; wait, wait,
No more, bull at a gate.
God, your will be done,
I'm at peace - your son.

Another deal done,
Contract written.
End of the fun.
End of the mission.

Given to his lawyer,
We're nearly there!
Need go no further,
No need to despair.

The lawyer says no,
No place now to go!
It has fallen over,
Home again Rover!

This time peace does reign,
Getting upset is no gain.
It's in the Lord's hands now,
Just needs to show us how!

A DAVID MUSING

It is amazing the difference a week makes. Most of last weeks 'challenges' have been solved. Waiting to hear about the last one, but am very hopeful! Life remains very busy but has returned to more of an equilibrium.

Life is like that. The good, the bad and the ugly. Nor is life fair.

Coming into a relationship with Jesus does not necessarily get rid of our problems but helps us to cope with them better. A burden is lifted as we give those intractable difficulties over to Him.

I understand that this may seem trite when you are in the midst of a particularly bad week or situation, but I can testify that it works in my life.

Why not try Him out? It's all to gain with nothing to lose.

So until next week.....

MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD

His servant and yours
