JESUS TALKS ABOUT THE KINGDOM (Kingdom mentions in the Gospels)

9 “This, then, is how you should pray: ”‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. (Matthew 6:9-10) Part 4

Last week we looked at the principle of "3's in God". We saw how God is 3 in 1 and 1 in 3, and how He works in 3's in His dealings with His 3-part creation - us!

We also saw how the kingdom of God and earth had converged on 2 previous occasions, at creation, and when Jesus came to earth, and postulated that, as God works in 3's, that there is a third convergence yet to come.

God's plan for His kingdom is spoken about in Ephesians.

9 Making known to us the mystery (secret) of His will (of His plan, of His purpose). [And it is this:] In accordance with His good pleasure (His merciful intention) which He had previously purposed and set forth in Him, 10 [He planned] for the maturity of the times and the climax of the ages to unify all things and head them up and consummate them in Christ, [both] things in HEAVEN and things on the EARTH." (Ephesians 1:9-10) (Amplified Bible)

This time however, it will be a corporate gathering of 'sons' (genderless), who are prepared to pay the price of 100% obedience to God's will, as Jesus did.....

10 In bringing many sons to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the author of their salvation perfect through suffering. 11 Both the one who makes men holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers. (Hebrews 2:10-11)

These are those Jesus referred to in the Parable of the Sower.

20 Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—thirty, sixty or even a hundred times what was sown.” (Mark 4:20)

'One hundred' speaks of complete submission, of being as one with Jesus.

7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. (James 4:7-8)

What is to come will be the fulfillment of the prayer we have prayed as a church over 2000 years, billions of times, but without a real understanding of what it means.

10 your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. (Matthew 6:10)

(To be continued next week)

PS: I understand that some of these concepts may be very different to you but I just ask you to read for the next few weeks, without rejecting them out of hand. Please pray about it also. Thanks. David.

FROM THE WORD

Spiritual Blessings in Christ

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding. And he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment—to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ. In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory." (Ephesians 1:3-14)

Jesus Made Like His Brothers

"It is not to angels that he has subjected the world to come, about which we are speaking. But there is a place where someone has testified: “What is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? You made him a little lower than the angels; you crowned him with glory and honor and put everything under his feet.”
In putting everything under him, God left nothing that is not subject to him. Yet at present we do not see everything subject to him. But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone. In bringing many sons to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the author of their salvation perfect through suffering. Both the one who makes men holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers. He says, “I will declare your name to my brothers; in the presence of the congregation I will sing your praises.” And again, “I will put my trust in him.” And again he says, “Here am I, and the children God has given me.” Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham’s descendants. For this reason he had to be made like his brothers in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted." (Hebrews 2:5-18)

Submit Yourselves to God

"What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? You want something but don’t get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. Or do you think Scripture says without reason that the spirit he caused to live in us envies intensely? But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says:
“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. Brothers, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against his brother or judges him speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it. There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you—who are you to judge your neighbor?" (James 4:1-12)

DAVID'S DOODLINGS

OLD AND NEW TESTAMENTS

941. Give me the history of the Old Testament to better understand the revelation of the New.

942. The New Testament is the reality of the Old Testament dream. Our task is to be this 'living truth' to the Jews.

943. God's plan begins in the Old and climaxes in the New. We need to understand both Testaments to fully appreciate it.

944. To understand an adult, it is helpful to know of their childhood. The same principle applies to the two Testaments.

945. When quoting from the Old Testament, we need to ensure it hasn't been superseded by the revelation of the New.

946. The measurement of Old Testament success is 'prosperity', in the New, 'sacrifice'. We often get the two confused!

947. The Old Testament signposts the path, the New is the path.

948. Jesus is sealed into the Old Testament, revealed in the New.

949. To better understand a country, you need an appreciation of its history. To better understand the New Testament you need an appreciation of the Old.

950. An illustration of the difference between the Old and New Testaments is that 'The Lamb' of the New had but 2 legs, less hair and a greater vocabulary!

294. REAL LETTERS THAT CHILDREN SENT TO GOD
Dear GOD,
Maybe Cain and Abel would not kill each other so much if they had their own rooms. It works with my brother.
-Larry
Dear GOD,
bet it is very hard for You to love all of everybody in the whole world. There are only 4 people in our family and I can never do it.
-Nan
Dear GOD,
Is it true my father won't get in Heaven if he uses his bowling words in the house?
-Anita
Dear GOD,
Did You mean for the giraffe to look like that or was it an accident?
-Norma
Dear GOD,
I went to this wedding and they kissed right in church. Is that okay?
-Neil
Dear GOD,
What does it mean You are a Jealous God? I thought You had everything.
-Jane
Dear GOD,
Did You really mean "do unto others as they do unto you"? Because if You did, then I'm going to fix my brother.
-Darla
Dear GOD,
Thank you for the baby brother, but what I prayed for was a puppy.
-Joyce
Dear GOD,
It rained for our whole vacation and is my father mad! He said some things about You that people are not supposed to say, but I hope You will not hurt him anyway.
-Your friend, (But I am not going to tell You who I am)
Dear GOD,
Please send me a pony. I never asked for anything before. You can look it up.
-Bruce
Dear GOD,
If we come back as something - Please don't let me be Jennifer Horton because I hate her.
-Denise
Dear GOD,
I want to be just like my Daddy when I get big but not with so much hair all over.
-Sam
Dear GOD,
I didn't think orange went with purple until I saw the sunset You made on Tuesday. That was cool.

FACTS FOR FUN

LAST WEEKS QUESTION: Why do fawns have spots?

ANSWER: Fawns are wobbly-legged and vulnerable to predators. Their spots help them out a bit by making them less visible. Because they often hunt in dim light, predators have specialised eyes that are sensitive to motion, but poor at distinguishing colours, details, and shapes. So a spotted fawn sitting quietly in the leaves is virtually invisible to the eyes of potential attackers. Fortunately, fawns know instinctively to stay still when danger lurks nearby. Fawns are further protected by their almost complete lack of odour as during the first two weeks of their lives, they're scentless. When they grow up, they no longer need their spots. As adults, they instead rely upon their speed and acute senses to avoid attack. (Why do teenagers have spots?)

THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: What is the fastest time someone has climbed 102 flights of stairs?

Answer Next Week.

SOME FUN FACTS

115. LIGHT AIRS
At the height of a hundred miles, air is only a billionth as dense as it is on Earth's surface. Even so, the total amount of air that is higher than the hundred-mile (160km) level still comes to 6 million tons. (How do you weigh air?)

116. COMPATIBLE
The relationship of a godparent to the real parent of a child is called ‘compaternity’. (For eternity?)

117. START ON A HIGH
New York City's Empire State Building is considered by many to be the most romantic place to be married. Each Valentine’s Day, couples joined in matrimony on the 80th floor of the Building, so automatically become members of the Empire State Building Wedding Club. This entitles them to free admission to the observatories on their anniversary, Valentine’s Day. In February 2000 there were 15 Valentine's Day weddings planned - fourteen marriages and one renewal of vows. Interested couples must write to the building’s owners and explain why they want to get married here. Couples are chosen on the basis of originality, uniqueness, and style. (Do they do divorces in the basement?)

338. THE EMERGENCY
To address an emergency call a doctor came to see a rich patient at his home, who was screaming with extreme stomach pain and was surrounded by many anxious relatives. The Doctor kicked all the relatives out of the room, closed the door with patient and he inside.

After a while he came out and asked, "Please give me a pair of scissors." People gave him stainless steel scissors.

He again went inside, closed the door and soon came back. He said, "Please give me a hammer." He got one.

A number of times he repeated the routine of going inside, closing the door and then coming back again for a new tool.

Finally he came outside one more time and asked, "Please give me a screw driver." The oldest son could not stand it any more and lost his patience. In a crying voice he pleaded, "Doctor please tell us what has happened to our dear Dad. Will he live? Could we open his will?"

The doctor said, "No, I don't know yet... I am still trying to open my stupid bag."

Last week I told my psychiatrist, "I keep thinking about suicide." He told me from now on I have to pay in advance.

I know the best way to get girls. I hang out at prisons and wait for parolees.

My doctor told me to watch my drinking. Now I drink in front of a mirror.

And I drink too much, way too much; my doctor drew blood he ran a tab!

One time my whole family played hide and seek. They found my mother in Pittsburgh!

Oh, last week was a rough week. I noticed my gums were shrinking. I was brushing my teeth with Preparation H.

Oh, my wife loves vacations. The other night she told me, "I wanna go someplace I've never been before." I took her to a men's room.

Oh, when I was a kid I was poor. We were so poor, when my father died; they asked my mother, "Paper or plastic?"

You wanna have laughs? Do what I do.

GOD'S VOICE CAN BE HEARD ABOVE THE ROAR OF RUSHING FLOODWATERS

Rosanne and Brian Steele, who pastor Christian Outreach Centre Chinchilla, and who are members of the Australian Prayer Network, have proof that God’s voice can speak louder than even the raging Queensland floodwaters.

Rosanne, who is an artist, recently decided to start painting again after some years, and in what she describes as a “burst of creative energy” went on to open an art and gift shop in the main street of Chinchilla.

She said: “The shop, which I called ‘Kabowd Kreations’ (Kabowd is the Hebrew word for glory, honour and abundance), became an important part of my life and ministry. It wasn’t for our benefit, but I used it to help others financially from time to time. It was in every sense a little ‘marketplace ministry’, allowing us to reach out beyond the four walls of the church into our community.

“The shop became quite a popular gathering place for locals, and because we did it to honour God, it carried a special atmosphere which people often commented on – I often heard people walking out of the shop saying that it just had a ‘nice feel’.

“Then just before Christmas, we started hearing about the threat of floods – and to be honest, most people didn’t really take the warnings all that seriously. Certainly I don’t think anyone even considered the need for evacuation.

“Then on Tuesday Dec 21, it was raining, and I was driving home from the shop when I clearly heard God say to me that there would be a massive flood and so I determined to evacuate everything and get all the stock out. It made no sense to my natural mind – no other business owners seemed to be worrying. But I knew I had heard God’s voice.

“So that night we made three trips to the shop and started to get things out – and the next day around midday, the police came and said a flood was definitely coming and to be prepared. So Brian and I with the help of others and SES immediately took everything else out of the shop and brought it home, leaving the shop completely empty by that evening.

“Then nothing happened for two days – everybody else was trading normally in the lead-up to Christmas, and I was starting to wonder if I had done the right thing – missing out on all that Christmas trading. I actually spoke to a young lady in our church and asked her whether she thought I had heard right.

“She said that she was sure I had heard God right, and that He would honour His Word to me – and it was only later that I remembered that I had a dream back in November that my shop was flooded.

“Then on Boxing Day – December 26 – the flood came, inundating the district. Many businesses in the main street had shifted things up onto desks and shelves, but almost no one else had totally evacuated – many lost everything as the water rose and kept on rising. It felt a bit like Noah’s flood.

“We started wondering if it would ever stop rising, but eventually it peaked the next day on December 27.”

But amazing as that is, according to Rosanne, that was just the start of the story: “The water stayed up for about eight days. When the flood eventually subsided, the Fire Brigade hosed the shop out, and the owner said he could fix the damage and have me back in within a week. But he needed an immediate reply, otherwise he would consider demolishing the building.

“We needed guidance, and in my own human mind, with the time pressure for an immediate decision, I was starting to panic. I didn’t know what to do.

But then the peace of God came over me, and I felt a clear leading not to go back into the shop. We told the owner, and that was the end of “Kabowd Kreations”.

“I remember saying to God, ‘But Lord, where is Your Kabowd – Your Glory –now? It’s gone’. God then spoke to me very clearly and said that His glory was not in a building, but in His people – the Kabowd was in me, not the shop.

“Then this month - on January 12 - a second wave of flooding hit Chinchilla, this time the flood went 20cm higher and more extensive damage was done to the shop. and people in the town started saying to me, ‘You’re the smartest woman in town’. But it wasn’t me being smart at all – it was just me being obedient to the Word that God had given me.

“Other businesses in the main street and in other parts of Chinchilla suffered huge losses – many lost everything. Yet all my stock is safe in our home, which praise God was untouched by the flood, and I can make a decision now whether to open another shop, or just sell the stock online.

“It has not been a pleasant or easy time for us, but we are so much better off than many others. God has given us the breathing space to take stock of our position, and be able to reach out to others in the community who have lost much, much more.

“God is faithful and His Word never returns to Him void – if I hadn’t listened to Him, and had instead listened to the wisdom of the world, I would have lost everything”.

WAXING LYRICAL

Some people can inspire in the midst of terminal pain and suffering, My mate Basil was one of those.

BASIL

It comes to us all, once to die,
Our best to ignore it, we do try.
Don’t know how, nor when, nor where,
Until death, in the face, does us stare.

For most, the sands of time predictably flow,
Plenty of life, our ultimate destiny to know,
Three score years and ten, normally more,
The last few perhaps, may be a chore.

For some though, death comes as a shock,
A life snuffed out at the tick of a clock,
In the fiery inferno of a collapsing tower,
Or a car, ramming another at full power.

But our Basil was chosen for a different task,
A walk through sickness and pain was his ask.
God knew what an inspiration he would be,
And he surely was, both to you and to me.

Basil I have known for a good number of years,
A wise man, a prophet, somewhat given to tears,
A man well respected, both at church and at home,
Salt of the earth, with not too much hair to comb.

But it was only during this current year,
That Basil’s character became so clear,
Oh, what had I missed out on, in days now past,
In a busy life, where spending time, comes last.

Unless the house has been built on a firm foundation,
Trials and troubles easily lead to spiritual ruination.
But through his pain, the light of his Saviour did shine,
What I saw in his life, I would like to see in mine.

Of course, he did naturally ask the question,
“Why me Lord?” I did hear him mention.
Then his wry sense of humour would shine through,
As into perspective, his whole life came into view.

Basil has been an inspiration to us all,
Through his trials, he has walked tall,
The quiet man - thought he had little to offer,
In his ultimate test, came through to conquer.

Basil my mate, us you still inspire,
In that certain faith, we so desire.
I will miss you my friend, so Basil tears I now shed,
As I seek to follow the path, in which you have led.

A DAVID MUSING

At this very time, Kathy, my sister Judy and her husband Bob, and myself, are sitting at my Mum's bedside, waiting for her to die. It is very likely she will have gone to be with Jesus by the time you read this. Our 3 New Zealand sons travelled to be with us for the weekend, for which we are very grateful.

It really, at 90, is a blessing for her, as she has become more unwell over recent times, particularly during these last few weeks.

Of course it is sad for us who remain, and I have shed a tear or three as I have shared these last days with her and the family. Mum is now unconscious, her pain is under control, as her body functions, one by one, gradually slow, and will finally cease.

As I have had time to reflect, sitting at her bedside, I realise how blessed she is to know that she is going to be with Jesus. And comforting for Kathy and I also. She does not need to hold on now, although the human body naturally tries to do so, for she knows she is going to another, better place.

How sad it is for those without this assurance. For death is the one certainty in life.

Your prayers for us all, would be particularly appreciated this week.

Until next week.......

MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD.

His servant and yours

David Tait

Our role is to bless and encourage those in ministry while promoting co-operation and unity of direction amongst the body of Christ, as emphasised 3 times by Jesus in His longest prayer, immediately prior to His arrest and crucifixion. "… so that they may be one as we are one." (John 17:12, 21, 23-4) Our website is currently being developed to encourage your participation one with another, to share resources, and to enable you to promote events and items of interest to the body as a whole – and have a smile while doing it!
