TRANSITION FROM 'THE CHURCH' TO 'THE KINGDOM'
A new series, looking at the some of the changes we need to make to move from a 'church' to a 'kingdom' mindset. (See the last 8 weeks of PGIM)FROM “FORM†TO (HOLY SPIRIT LED) “SUBSTANCEâ€
Being totally honest, and so sadly, we have 'organized' God out of our church services. There is so much to do! Planned worship songs! Notices! Prayers! Sermons! And only 60 - 90 - 120 minutes to do it in! Can't be late for dinner or our people wont come back!
Our Sunday services have evolved over the centuries into tradition bound meetings - even in non-traditional churches.
We must have order. This is the passage quoted - or rather, selected parts of it to suit our own theology!......
Orderly Worship
26 What then shall we say, brothers? When you come together, everyone has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. All of these must be done for the strengthening of the church. 27 If anyone speaks in a tongue, two—or at the most three—should speak, one at a time, and someone must interpret. 28 If there is no interpreter, the speaker should keep quiet in the church and speak to himself and God. 29 Two or three prophets should speak, and the others should weigh carefully what is said. 30 And if a revelation comes to someone who is sitting down, the first speaker should stop. 31 For you can all prophesy in turn so that everyone may be instructed and encouraged. 32 The spirits of prophets are subject to the control of prophets. 33 For God is not a God of disorder but of peace. As in all the congregations of the saints, 34 women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says. 35 If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church. 36 Did the word of God originate with you? Or are you the only people it has reached? 37 If anybody thinks he is a prophet or spiritually gifted, let him acknowledge that what I am writing to you is the Lord’s command. 38 If he ignores this, he himself will be ignored. 39 Therefore, my brothers, be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues. 40 But everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way. (1 Corinthians 14:26-40)
There is no question that the church of today is greatly different to that of the early New Testament. Churches, as we understand them, in terms of ministers, buildings, programmed Sunday services etc., did not really develop until after the conversion of the Roman Emperor Constantine, in the late 300AD's. The Roman Catholic Church provided the basic form that we 'protest'-ants, in spite of our protestations, in essence, follow today. For, at that time, the church became institutionalized, a characteristic that still binds us today. For as we grow in size, so rules, regulations and formalisation automatically follow in order to keep things in order.
The result, stated again, is that God has been organised out of His church.
This is not what Jesus died for.
Jesus died to take mankind away from the bondage of religion and law into an age of grace and personal relationship with Him.
21 But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22 This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. (Romans 3:21-4)
Personal relationships only develop when the two parties communicate personally with one another. A lack of communication and understanding is the major reason marriages fail.
We are to be the perfected bride of Christ.....
6 Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting: “Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns.
7 Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready. 8 Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear.†(Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of the saints.) (Revelation 19:6-8)
Just as in our personal lives, so when we gather together, we are to be led by the Holy Spirit, not by 'New Testament priests' becoming an intermediary between ourselves and God. As the Word says (highlighting mine).....
26 What then shall we say, brothers? When you come together, everyone has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. All of these must be done for the strengthening of the church. (1 Corinthians 14:26)
Everyone! For, in the kingdom, we are all priests.....
To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, 6 and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father—to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen. (Revelation 1:5b-6)
Obviously this total participation is only practical in smaller gatherings. But if we are to take Paul's guidance at face value, we need to do this in order for all to contribute.
The huge growth of the church in China is a good example.
Personally, we are running a group for 'The Gospel Faith Messenger' ministry, aimed at encouraging people to develop the spiritual gifts, especially prophecy.....
Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy. (1 Corinthians 14:1)
Seeing the spiritual growth of people who have, for whatever reason, not been able to develop spiritual gifts in the formal church situation, has been both encouraging and rewarding.
For the participation of the people, led by the Holy Spirit, is the way of the kingdom.
9 And they sang a new song: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation. 10 You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth.†(Revelation 5:9-10)

FROM THE WORD
Righteousness Through Faith"But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished— he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus. Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. On what principle? On that of observing the law? No, but on that of faith. For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from observing the law. Is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles too? Yes, of Gentiles too, since there is only one God, who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through that same faith. Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Not at all! Rather, we uphold the law." (Romans 3:21-31)
Orderly Worship
"What then shall we say, brothers? When you come together, everyone has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. All of these must be done for the strengthening of the church. If anyone speaks in a tongue, two—or at the most three—should speak, one at a time, and someone must interpret. (1 Corinthians 14:26-40)
The Scroll and the Lamb
"Then I saw in the right hand of him who sat on the throne a scroll with writing on both sides and sealed with seven seals. And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice, “Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?†But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth could open the scroll or even look inside it. I wept and wept because no one was found who was worthy to open the scroll or look inside. Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.†Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing in the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. He had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. He came and took the scroll from the right hand of him who sat on the throne. And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. And they sang a new song: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God,
and they will reign on the earth.†Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they sang: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!†Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing: “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!†The four living creatures said, “Amen,†and the elders fell down and worshiped." (Revelation 5:1-14)

OLD AND NEW TESTAMENTS941. Give me the history of the Old Testament to better understand the revelation of the New.
942. The New Testament is the reality of the Old Testament dream. Our task is to be this 'living truth' to the Jews.
943. God's plan begins in the Old and climaxes in the New. We need to understand both Testaments to fully appreciate it.
944. To understand an adult, it is helpful to know of their childhood. The same principle applies to the two Testaments.
945. When quoting from the Old Testament, we need to ensure it hasn't been superseded by the revelation of the New.
946. The measurement of Old Testament success is 'prosperity', in the New, 'sacrifice'. We often get the two confused!
947. The Old Testament signposts the path, the New is the path.
948. Jesus is sealed into the Old Testament, revealed in the New.
949. To better understand a country, you need an appreciation of its history. To better understand the New Testament you need an appreciation of the Old.
950. An illustration of the difference between the Old and New Testaments is that 'The Lamb' of the New had but 2 legs, less hair and a greater vocabulary!

588. BEST MAN
Jeff had been my best friend since kindergarten, so it was no surprise to me when he asked me to be the best man at his wedding. On the appointed day, as we were getting
dressed for the ceremony, Jeff got a rather severe case of "cold feet". "I can't go through with it," he said.
"I'm nauseous, my stomach cramps, my knees are like spaghetti."
I said, "It's just PMS."
"PMS?" he asked.
"Yeah," I quipped, "Pre-Minister Syndrome"
587. THE SOUP
Betty and Jane were making soup for a church potluck. Betty asked Jane:"Wanna see somthing Amazing?"
Jane said, "Sure"
Betty than picked up a turnip she was about to cut and started squeezing it. After a few minutes blood started coming out of it.
"I cant believe it!" Said Jane, "How did you do that?" Jane replied,
"Did you forget? I'm the church treasurer."

FACTS FOR FUN
LAST WEEKS QUESTION: Why is the Dead Sea so salty?ANSWER: It's just like the bigger oceans. Water from rivers and streams feeds into it but no water drains out of it. The only way water can leave is through evaporation. And as the water evaporates, the salt is left behind. (‘Sink or swim’ doesn’t apply here – for you can’t sink and it is difficult to swim in because of the buoyancy.)
THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: Why do fawns have spots?
Answer Next Week.
927. NO CONQUESTS
India hasn’t invaded any country in her last 10,000 years of history. (Others haven’t been so kind to her though.)
928. FIRST IN CYBERSPACE
The first domain name ever registered was Symbolics.com. The domain name was registered on March 15, 1985, by Symbolics Technology, Inc. Seven of the first ten domain names registered went to Universities. (Was symbolic of the future then and symbiotic today.)
929. A BATH FIRST
In the 1500’s Most people got married in June because they took their yearly bath in May (beginning of summer) and still smelled pretty good by June. However, they were by then starting to smell, so brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odour. Hence the custom today of carrying a bouquet when getting married. (Kids of every generation since have tried to re-introduce this custom)

136. NOTHING SPECIAL"May I take your order?" the waiter asked.
"Yes, how do you prepare your chickens?"
"Nothing special, sir," he replied.
"We just tell them straight out that they're going to die."
137. TWO KEYS
Two keys hang in an undertaker's office - one for the organ in the chapel; the other for one of the cars in the garage.
Two small signs above the keys read "Hymn" and "Hearse."
138. LIGHTER
The ship was sinking and four sailors were able to get a lifeboat into the water and climb into it safely. As they relaxed, they decided to have a cigarette and relax a few moments before starting their journey to safety. The cigarettes were dry but all their matches had become wet and they had no way to light their cigarettes. Finally, one of the
sailors came up with a solution. He threw a cigarette overboard. This worked well. They were able to smoke because the lifeboat had become a cigarette lighter.
139. PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT
Once there was a monastery well-known for the magnificent voices of the choir in their Gregorian chants. To attain this level of excellence, of course, intensive practice is needed.
The monks would rise from their beds at 4:30 am, attend their morning prayers, and gather for ninety minutes of rehearsal at 5. Finally at 6:30 they would get their breakfast.
One morning, though, the monks gathered in the chancel to rehearse; the director was not there. Ten minutes passed... fifteen. No director.
The monks were cold, sleepy, hungry and growing impatient. Most of them took the opportunity to meditate and improve their souls, but all were finding it difficult.
Finally at 5:25 the director came in (brushing crumbs from his cassock, to make matters worse). As he always did, he chanted on a descending fourth, "Mor-ning!" and the monks, as they always did, replied on a further descending fourth, "Mor-ning!" All that is except one young monk, irritated beyond endurance, who sarcastically (but softly) replied "Evening!"
He didn't count on the sharp ear of the director, though, who cocked his head, frowned, and chanted in a melody made famous on Broadway...
"Someone chanted 'evening'!!"
140. WHICH TEAM?
It's a little-known fact that William Tell and his son were avid bowlers as well as archery buffs. Unfortunately, all the league records were destroyed by a fire, and we will
never know for whom the Tells bowled.
141. ON GUARD
A very rich man kept a pair of lions to guard his property. Each of them took turns being on duty. One night, a group of midgets tried to rob him but the lion on patrol caught them and ate them.
When the police arrived, the sergeant asked skeptically, "Well, so where is this group of midgets you say broke in ?" The rich man pointed proudly to his guardians and said,
"It's all in the lion of duty."

BIBLE TRIVIA (The Bible Lands)
THE GREAT PYRAMID OF CHEOPS AT GIZA..........built over 3,000 years ago, was the tallest structure ever built until the 19th century. At 481 feet tall, it's base has 756 blocks of stone, many weighing 5,000 pounds.
This pyramid was built with no mechanical equipment other than the lever and the roller, as the Egyptians, at this time, had not learned the use of the wheel.

13 Year Old Girl Comes Back from the Dead!
OpenHeaven.com Top News - Julie Pash, Advancing the KingdomUganda: The first time we met Sania was in 2010 when her Muslim mother brought her to our mission base for prayer. Sania was born with sickle cell anemia and was very sick this day. Margaret, one of our ministers prayed for the young 10 year old girl, and there was an immediate improvement. As Margaret continued to share with them about Jesus, the healer, they both accepted Christ as their savior.
This widowed mother and her children started attending church, and Sania started singing with the youth praise and worship team. Although still having some struggles with the sickle cell disease, Sania was doing much better.
Several weeks ago, Sania started getting sick again. During morning prayers in the ATK Nakivumbi church, Sania’s sister came in running and said “Sania has just died! She was taken to the hospital for treatment, and she died.â€
Crying broke out in the church at the news that this young now 13 year girl had died! She was on her way back home so the family could get her ready for her burial.
Pastor Michael led the group in a prayer before they left to view the body. (Burials have to take place within 24 hours when there is no embalming) Other church members were called to bring benches and a tent for the funeral. Remember, the hospital declared her dead and released the body to be taken home for burial - the way things are done here.
When everyone arrived at her home, they found Sania alive! She was taken back to the hospital where they had to certify that she was now alive -- then they released her as she was now seemingly healthy! She had died for about 45 minutes and was now alive!
I recently spoke with Sania about what happened to her. I asked her what she saw when she had died. She told me she saw a very bright light and then a man walked through that light.
I asked her if she knew who that man was. She said, “Yes, it was Jesus.†I asked her if Jesus said anything to her. She told me He said “I’m not ready for you, yet. You have to go back because you still have things you need to do.†I asked her if she knew what those things were, and Sania told me, “I still need to worship Him hereâ€
…..and that is exactly what she is doing. She is so small, yet she worships with such power. She worships from being in a different place -- with the sounds of heaven guiding her. We are so honored to be able to disciple her in this new life with Jesus.
52 Everyone was crying and carrying on over her. Jesus said “Don’t cry. She didn’t die; she’s sleeping.†54 Then Jesus, gripping her hand, called, “My dear child, get up.†55 She was up in an instant, up and breathing again! Luke 8:52-55 Message

WAXING LYRICAL
Many expect life to be easy once they come to Jesus. But His life was not easy - and we are meant to be like Him!LIFE'S ROSES AND THORNS
Life may be short,
It could be long.
Will we be caught?
Or end up strong?
Money comes,
Money goes.
We do our sums,
But no-one knows.
Healthy one day,
Sick the next.
For wellness we pray,
When ill - now vexed.
All's under control,
Now it falls apart!
We're first on a roll,
Then back to the start!
In God too, we must face this place,
For all's not smooth, in life's race.
Him we are called, ever to revere,
And in daily life, to persevere.
He hasn't promised a fine bed of roses,
Nor simple solutions, to all life poses.
For roses were created with thorns you see,
Representing life problems, for you and me.
Yet when we see the rose in triumphant bloom,
Its shining beauty overwhelming the gloom,
The thorns' pricks and scratches are all worthwhile,
Put aside, forgotten, when with pleasure we smile.
For there cannot be a rose, without the thorns,
So with trial and testing, we do lock horns.
In order to become the rose God wants us to be,
We must overcome the thorns of life, you see.
Then He will pick us, now His richest bloom,
Taking pride of place in His heavenly room.
Eternal blooms, never ever to fade,
For by His hand, we have been made.
When locking horns with our latest thorn,
Remember the rose - no, it does not mourn.
From glory to glory, we are being made,
The price of the Cross, now fully paid.

A DAVID MUSING
The Christmas - New Year period is the traditional holiday season here in New Zealand. Yet interestingly, although Summer, it is not the time of the most settled weather, which the opposite of August in the Northern Hemisphere, is February here. Yet tradition has it for people to holiday now, instead of the better weather times later. So much of what we do in our church lives too, is the result of tradition. So much so that our traditions assume greater importance than our personal relationship with Jesus.
I don't want to detail traditions here, for they vary much, but I would request, as we head into another year, that you think about what you do, both in your secular and religious life. Are your actions relevant to today, or you do it because you have always done it that way? Are you set in your ways? Let us ask Jesus what changes we need to make - and then put them into action.
Until next week.....
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD
