DAVID AND KATHY ARE SHIFTING TO KENYA TO LIVE! Part 6

Five weeks ago, I said that my wife Kathy and myself were shifting to Webuye, in Western Kenya, to live on a long term basis, from mid-2017.

JOINING THE COMMUNITY

The question we are most asked is, "Are you going as missionaries?"

To most, we answer, "No, we are going to join the community in Webuye."

What is a 'missionary'? Here is a comprehensive definition....

MISSIONARY: A person sent by a church into an area to carry on evangelism or other activities, as educational or hospital work. 2. a person strongly in favor of a program, set of principles, etc., who attempts to persuade or convert others. 3. a person who is sent on a mission. (www.dictionary.com)

Sadly, the problem of the definition, and of most people's concept of a missionary, is the implication of a superiority/inferiority relationship. This is historically rooted in the perceived superiority of the white races and the dominance of the West's political, economic and religious systems.

Yes, we are going for hospital work. Yes, we do believe in, live and and proclaim the kingdom of God (but throughout all the world). Yes, God is sending us to Webuye.

Our motivation however, is not one of those coming with a superior system to enlighten and convert the 'natives' (as Westerners often consider in a derogatory way, those of a different skin colour to their own, whether they be in Africa, Asia, or elsewhere). Racism and elitism have always been, and remain, rampant in the World in which we live.

Rather, we are coming as servants of God to integrate into the local community, so that we all may share together, and learn from one another.

James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes scattered among the nations: Greetings. (James 1:1)

Actually, there are proportionately more 'Christians' in Webuye, than nearly anywhere in the West! In fact, many from the so-called 'Third World' are now coming to Western nations, to reconvert us! So that cannot be why God has sent us there.

Yes, there is a shortage of capital in Kenya, and the rural health system is particularly compromised because of that. Preventable blindness amongst too many is one result. To see the results of cataract surgery upon people, and the amazing story of an Ophthalmologist who overcame huge odds to serve her people in Namibia, please view..... A CHANCE TO SEE AGAIN

This incredibly moving (excuse the pun) video has been viewed over 500,000 times since being put up onto UTUBE, just 2 months ago! And yes, SEE INTERNATIONAL, who support the work there, have agreed to partner with us also, once we have the facilities available! With Kathy being a very experienced Eye Nurse, she has an affinity with, and experience to share, also. This is very exciting for us and we hope, resonates with you also.

We have skills in horticulture and hospitality too, which will also be useful, as well as a revelation of the kingdom, that we have been sharing worldwide for 20 years now.

But, valuable as these things are, the primary reason we have been called there is to illustrate in a real life way, the principles of God, which are summed up as.....

[ The Workers Are Few ] Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. (Matthew 9:35)

No, we are not Jesus! But the Jesus in us is taking us to Webuye, completely out of our comfort zone, to proclaim the kingdom, to live it, and to heal sicknesses as the Lord enables.

Amen.

Until next week - KARIBU!

PS: The photo clearly illustrates one healthy eye and the other with a cataract.

Continued next week.

FROM THE WORD

THE WORDS OF JESUS

May we hear what the Lord is saying to us.

The Disciples Return (Matthew 14:13, Mark 6:30-2, Luke 9:10, John 6:1)
With their news. Jesus takes them away from the crowd.

“Come with me, just yourselves. We’ll go to a quiet place, and rest for a while,”

Jesus Feeds the 5000 (Matthew 14:15-21, Mark 6:35-44, Luke 9:12-17, John 6:3-14)
Near Bethsaida, where a crowd had gathered.

“Where can we buy enough bread to feed all these people?”
“Sit them down in groups of about fifty,”
“Collect what’s left over so nothing is wasted.”

Jesus (and Peter) Walking on Water (Matthew 14:24-33, Mark 6:48-52, John 6:16-21)
In the storm. The disciples see Jesus.

“Don’t worry, it’s me! Don’t be afraid!”

Peter walks - then sinks.

“Come on then,”
“You have such little trust in me. Why did you doubt?”

Jesus - The Bread of Life (John 6:22-59)
When the boat reached the other side the crowd asked how He got there. Jesus replied.

“I tell you the truth,” “you’re looking because you ate as much bread as you wanted, not because you understood the miracles. Don’t be preoccupied about food that doesn’t last, but concentrate on the lasting food of eternal life which the Son of man will give you, for God the Father has placed his seal of approval on him.”
“What God wants you to do is to trust in the one he sent.”
“I tell you the truth, it wasn’t Moses who gave you bread from heaven,” “It’s my Father who gives you the true bread of heaven. For the bread of God is the one who comes from heaven and gives life to the world.”
“I am the bread of life,” “Anyone who comes to me will never be hungry again, and anyone who trusts in me will never be thirsty again. But as I explained to you before, you have seen me, but you still don’t trust me. All those the Father gives me will come to me, and I won’t reject any of them. For I came down from heaven not to do what I want, but to do what the One who sent me wants. What he wants is for me not to lose anyone he has given to me, but for me to raise them up at the last day. What my Father wants is for everyone who sees the Son and trusts in him to have eternal life, and for me to raise them up at the last day.”

Then they disagreed with Him.

“Stop grumbling to each other,” “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me attracts them, and I will raise them up at the last day. As is written in Scripture by the prophets, ‘Everyone will be taught by God.’ Everyone who listens to and learns from the Father comes to me. Not that anyone has seen God, except he who is from God; he has seen the Father. I tell you the truth: anyone who trusts in him has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your forefathers ate manna in the desert but they still died. But this is the bread that comes down from heaven, and anyone who eats it won’t ever die. I am the life-giving bread from heaven, and anyone who eats this bread will live forever. The bread is my flesh that I give so that the world may live.
“I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you cannot truly live. Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood remain in me, and I remain in them. Just as the life-giving Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so anyone who feeds on me will live because of me. Now this is the bread that came down from heaven, not the kind your forefathers ate and still died. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever.”

BOOK OF THE WEEK

TRANSITION FROM "THE CHURCH" TO "THE KINGDOM":
Living The Kingdom Lifestyle Today

The more I grow in Jesus, the more I study history, and the more revelation the Lord gives me, the more I see differences between where we are as 'the church' and where we should be as integral members of 'the kingdom' of God.

Surely the two are the same? Yes, they are meant to be. But the reality is that they are not. For over the 2000 odd years since Jesus, the church has become an 'institution', with a life of its own, rather than being an 'instrument' to build God's kingdom.

Please don't get me wrong! The church does many good things. It has spread the Good News of Jesus around most of the earth. It is the leading supplier of social services worldwide. It has influenced society and history over the last 2000 years more than any other institution. One third of the world's population is Christian, or nominally so. Considerable milestones have been achieved.

Yet, is the church today truly ushering in the kingdom of God? Do we really mean, or believe it, when we pray.....

10 your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. (Matthew 6:10)

Sadly, the reality is, in much of the church, God's kingdom has become man's kingdom, where the protection and promotion of the individual church, denomination or grouping, has become more important in men's minds than building the kingdom of God. We have moved from a single church kingdom in the 1st century to over 30,000 church kingdoms now!

From the death of the Apostle John round AD100, we saw the gradual erosion of the Apostolic foundations of the church. With the conversion of the Roman Emperor Constantine, the church became a human based institution furthering the ends of the state, or the clergy, or both. The Reformation brought some of the foundational truths back into the church which has been built upon over the centuries since. However churches, whether of traditional, evangelical, charismatic or pentecostal hues have created further division, instead of unity, within the body of Christ.

'Why is this?' and 'What are we to do about it?' are at the heart of what we will look at here.

TESTIMONY

When the Lord started speaking to me about the church, approaching 20 years ago now, people were generally not interested in what He was saying to me. It was like hitting your head against a brick wall!

But over the past 10 years there has been a lot more interest and understanding of what the Lord is saying and requiring of us, His people, in these end days. All round the world He is giving a similar kingdom or apostolic message and vision to individuals and groups of people.

None has it all, or gets it all right, for there is a huge change in mindset required for the messengers as well as the people. Yes, we are nearly all imbued in church ways! As well, all are human, able to make mistakes in hearing from God, adding in bits from our own minds and experience. No-one is perfect, least of all, me!

But, in spite of this, there is gradually arising a body of people who are becoming increasingly sold out to Jesus, ones whose desire it is to put His kingdom ahead of their own, both as individuals and as a church, those whose whole desire is to be in the bride for whom Jesus is returning.....

7 Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready. 8 Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear.” (Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of the saints.) (Revelation 19:7-8)

Come Jesus, come.

DAVID'S DOODLINGS

THE CROSS AND THE BLOOD

725. Jesus freely gave His life for us on the Cross. He invites us to freely give our lives back to Him in return.

726. New Zealand has 4 million people and 40 million sheep. Yet, if it weren't for the Cross of Jesus, our sheep numbers would still be insufficient to pay the ongoing cost of sin. For this, the sheep are most grateful to Him!

727. Most people dislike the sight of blood more than that of sin. But sin is so ugly that Jesus shed all His blood to cover it!

728. Blood represents life - both natural and spiritual. Give me more of the blood!

729. Without blood, there is no life. Without sacrifice, there is no blood. A sacrificial life is bathed in the blood of Jesus.

730. The Cross cost Jesus His all. How much of our all are we prepared to give back to Him?

732. Colours in God's sight! Blood is red. Sin is black. White is purity. Red over black is white.

733. Jesus' Blood is the stain remover of life.

734. Man's blood spilled, is to be feared. Jesus' blood spilled, to be revered.

735. The Days of Grace in which we now live have not reduced the awe-fullness of the Cross, but oftentimes have hidden its bloodiness beneath the shroud of love.

736. It's relatively easy to spill our blood as a martyr. Yet, it's extremely hard to submit ourselves to the ongoing blood transforming transfusions necessary for His life to live within us.

737. Blood is life. Sin is death. Help me to love your blood more and more each day, Lord.

738. Human blood grows, flows and goes. But Jesus' blood never ends.

LAUGHING AT OURSELVES

***Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves for they shall never cease to be amused***

*** Those who can't laugh at themselves leave the job to others. ***

436. MISPLACED ADVERTIZING
A little church in the suburbs had suddenly stopped buying from its regular office supply dealer. So, the dealer telephoned Deacon Brown to ask why.

"I'll tell you why," shouted Deacon Brown. "Our church ordered some pencils from you to be used in the pews for visitors to register."

"Well, interrupted the dealer, "didn't you receive them yet?"

"Oh, we received them all right," replied Deacon Brown. "However, you sent us some golf pencils...each stamped with the words, 'Play Golf Next Sunday.' "

435. YOU AND ME BOTH, SISTER
A pastor was in a discussion with an elderly church member about a relative of hers who had seen the light and joined the church after a lifetime of riotous living. "Will my converted cousin's sins be forgiven?" she asked.

"Oh, certainly," replied the pastor, "Remember, the greater the sin, the greater the saint."

The woman thought silently for a time. Then she said, "Oh, Pastor, how I wish I'd known this fifty years ago."

(Not worth the risk - not the same blessings!)

434. CHOW DOWN...
A little boy went to stay the night with a friend and ate supper with their family. Before they ate, the boy bowed his head and waited for the blessing to be said. But everyone started helping themselves to the food and he looked back up, puzzled.

"What's wrong, why aren't you eating?" asked his friend's mom.

The boy, who had been taught to give thanks, asked, "Don't you pray at meals?"

The father said they didn't.

"Oh, I see," said the lad, "You're just like my dog--you start right in!"

FACTS FOR FUN

LAST WEEKS QUESTION: What is the sleeping sickness?

ANSWER: Sleeping sickness, or encephalitis lethargica, was a strange disease that appeared in Europe suddenly in 1915. By 1918, the disease, which took many forms, had spread throughout the world. In some cases, victims fell into a coma and never woke up. Others died from days and days of NOT being able to sleep at all. The epidemic, which is estimated to have affected five million people, vanished mysteriously in 1927. Survivors didn't fare well. The long-term effects of the sleeping sickness, which had developed into a form of Parkinson's disease, had turned many patients into motionless ‘statues’. In March 1969, neurologist Oliver Sacks began to prescribe L-dopa, a drug used to treat Parkinson's disease, to sleeping sickness patients. The effect was extraordinary. Many began to ‘wake up’ and were suddenly, after decades of not moving, able to walk and talk and think. Some patients believed they were still in the 1920s! Sadly though, many patients on L-dopa began to suffer from involuntary muscle movements, bizarre motions and notions, and other serious symptoms. (Maybe we all would if we woke up 40 years in the future!)

THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: What is a group of flamingos called?

SOME FUN FACTS

282. A GOOD DROP?
One bushel in every 14, that is 7 percent of the entire Irish barley crop, goes to the production of Guinness Beer. (To help them cope with the miserable Irish climate or encourage the telling of their ever taller Irish yarns? The balance to make Irish whisky?)

283. PONTIUS PILATE
After sentencing Jesus to be crucified, 6 years later Pilate ended up killing himself. In 36 AD after Caligula ordered him to come to Rome to explain his actions in the massacre of some Samaritans. It is unclear whether Caligula ordered the suicide or Pilate simply feared harsh punishment. (Or godly conviction over his greatest error!)

284. A LOUSY SELECTION
During the middle ages, mayors in Hurdenburg in Sweden were elected by having the candidates bend forward, resting their beards on a table. A single louse would be placed in the centre and the lucky man whose beard the insightful louse crawled into would be the next mayor. (Have we had lousy politicians ever since?)

GREAT GROANERS

168. LEGAL
If you're mad at someone, first let him sit in your car, and then you can belt him.

169. NEW DRUG REJECTED
Have you heard about the pharmaceutical company that developed a new drug which, when administered to women, compels them to go join a convent?

The FDA refused to license it. Seems it was habit forming.

170. WHAT WAS THAT?
Three retirees, each with age related hearing loss, were playing golf one fine March day.

One remarked to the other, "Windy, isn't it?"

"No," the second man replied, "it's Thursday."

And the third man chimed in, "So am I. Let's go have a beer.

171. THE DISASTER
A husband and wife had a human cannonball act in the circus. One day the wife ran off with the lion tamer. The husband was extremely dejected. The strong man asked him what he was going to do.

"This is a disaster," the husband answered, I don't know where I'm going to find another woman of her caliber."

172. THE HOUSE SPECIAL
A very thirsty man goes into a bar. As he's sitting down, he hears the man next to him tell the bartender, "I'll have another waterloo."

The bartender gives the fellow a tall, well-iced drink, then asks the newcomer what he would like to drink. Thinking the other man's drink may be a specialty of the house, he says, "I'll have a waterloo, too."

The bartender gives him the tall, well-iced drink, and the customer takes a big drink.
"Hey," he says, "this isn't any good. It tastes just like water!" The man next to him looks at the bartender and says, "Well, it is water.! Right, Lou?"

173. THE DILEMNA
There was this guy, and he had a girlfriend called Lorraine who was very pretty and he liked her a lot. One day he went to work to find a new girl had started. Her name was Clearly and she was absolutely gorgeous. He became quite besotted with her and after a while it became obvious that she was interested in him too.

But this guy was a loyal man and he wouldn't do anything with Clearly while he was still going out with Lorraine. He decided that there was nothing to do but to break up with her and get it on with the new girl. He planned several times to tell Lorraine but he couldn't bring himself to do it.

One day they went for a walk along the river bank when Lorraine slipped and fell in to the river. The current carried her off and she drowned. The guy stopped for a moment by the river and then ran off smiling and singing.......

I can see Clearly now Lorraine has gone.

Disney Cartoon's 'Unbiblical' Gay Kisses Prompt One Million Moms Petition

"Alerting all parents! In a first for the Disney Channel, a Disney XD show subtly displayed several gay kisses in an episode that aired a couple of days ago," One Million Moms said in its petition, signed by over 32,000 people as of Friday morning.

The recent "Star vs. the Forces of Evil" episode in question depicted gay couples kissing among others during a boy band concert, which has been reported as the first on-screen same-sex PDA on a Disney cartoon show.

The conservative group argued that Disney has been "under pressure" by the gay community to portray openly gay relationships.

"This is the last place parents would expect their children to be confronted with content regarding sexual orientation. Issues of this nature are being introduced too early and too soon, and it is becoming extremely common and unnecessary," the petition reads.

Disney has said that its brand has "always been inclusive, with stories that reflect acceptance and tolerance and celebrate the differences that make our characters uniquely wonderful in their own way."

Christian figures such as Ken Ham, a young earth creationist who is the CEO of the Ark Encounter, the life-sized Noah's Ark theme park in Kentucky, are urging parents not to support the "unbiblical" company.

"They're redefining the family—do you want to entrust your kids to be influenced by Disney?" Ham asked parents in a Facebook post.

"Take the kids to real family-friendly attractions like the Ark Encounter and Creation Museum," he encouraged. "These two family attractions honor and stay true to God's Word in all areas, including marriage and gender."

Ray Comfort, of Living Waters Publications, agreed, and wrote: "Instead of visiting Disney, go to Ken Ham's Ark. It's incredible."

The same-sex cartoon kisses preceded news that the upcoming live-action "Beauty and the Beast" film remake will include an "exclusively gay moment" on screen for the first time in the company's history.

Bill Condon, the film's director, said that actor Josh Gad, who portrays LeFou, the sidekick to the film's villain Gaston, "breaks new ground when it comes to LGBT visibility," adding that he "makes something really subtle and delicious out of it."

"[I]t is a nice, exclusively gay moment in a Disney movie," Condon described, without giving away details.

Evangelist and President of Samaritan's Purse Franklin Graham slammed the revelation, however, calling it an attempt to "push the LGBT agenda" on children.

"Disney has the right to make their cartoons, it's a free country," Graham wrote on Facebook. "But as Christians we also have the right not to support their company. I hope Christians everywhere will say no to Disney."

WAXING LYRICAL

Depression and loneliness are big problems today. Yet the answers are often in our own hands through applying the principles of loving and helping others, that Jesus taught us.

LIFE IS FUN

Life is fun.
On the run.
Plenty to do.
How about you?

Time dragging?
Morale sagging?
Go help some others.
Orphans and mothers.

Takes mind off yourself,
You're not on the shelf.
It's something you can do,
Yes, a word, so very true.

Serving others, it gives you a lift,
Depression off you, it does shift.
You get to help someone in need,
While bringing you up to speed!

A win, win action for all,
It keeps you on the ball.
While those who so need the hand,
Will smile, all around the land.

Jesus came to show us the way,
A servant to all, was His play.
If we care to follow His chosen path,
Will brighten the day, make us laugh.

When you are down, but want to be up,
Remember Jesus, drink from His cup.
For His ways are greater than ours,
Serving others will fill the hours.

Jesus to others we will become,
Widows, orphans and solo mum.
God's kingdom will be built here on earth,
And you will have assisted in its birth.

"Your kingdom come, Your will be done"'
Is not to be religious, it can be fun.
You too can shine as a light so bright,
Reflecting Jesus' love, day and night.

JUST DO IT!

A DAVID MUSING

Our beautiful city of Napier, on the East Coast of New Zealand's North Island, plays host to many events. In the past few weeks to local (Art Deco), National (Te Matatini National Kapa Haka Festival nearby in Hastings) and International (Flying 15's World Championship).

The sight of yachts racing downwind with colorful spinnakers flying is a sight to behold! Particularly for us in a island nation with a 14,000km coastline, the 10th longest in the world. No-one lives more than 119km from the sea, and most of us within a just a few kilometres. For Kathy and myself, it is only 200 metres!

I remember once taking a Canadian to see the sea for the first time, many years ago, when we were visiting Great Britain. He looked at, smelled the sea small, waded into, and most surprisingly to us, tasted the salty sea water!

It is amazing what we take for granted, when you grow up with something!

Familiarity with God can be a problem too. It is so easy, with time, to lose that first love and excitement we once had. Where we have, let us repent, and seek Him with all our being once again.

Until next week.......

MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD.

His servant and yours

David Tait

It is securely based upon the foundational principles of the Apostles Creed while recognising the wide and rich diversity of beliefs amongst Christians in other areas. In accordance with the Lord's direction, materials produced by the ministry are available, free of charge, to genuine enquirers upon request. The ministry is solely funded by donations, as the Lord provides. A list of materials available (plus some fun!) is obtainable and freely downloadable from our website
wwj.org.nz or by contacting us as follows.

Our role is to bless and encourage those in ministry while promoting co-operation and unity of direction amongst the body of Christ, as emphasised 3 times by Jesus in His longest prayer, immediately prior to His arrest and crucifixion. "... so that they may be one as we are one." (John 17:12, 21, 23-4) Our website is currently being developed to encourage your participation one with another, to share resources, and to enable you to promote events and items of interest to the body as a whole - and have a smile while doing it!
